Fankid Aesthetic – Sage Oak
C. Who is stubborn and who has to try to persuade the other one? Are they successful?
The stubborn one was definitely Liza. She was sometimes a bit reluctant about getting involved in Lance’s family traditions, since she felt like she would be betraying her own clan that way. Lance was able to convince her that their marriage signified the union of the two clans, and that he would participate in Fafnir traditions as well, so it all worked out in the end. Now the time Liza tried to move over 10 Charizard into the Fusube clan compound on the other hand…
J. How do they respond when they find out they’re pregnant?
They both were excited but nervous, especially Lance. He had no positive adult role models growing up, so he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to be a good father. Liza was a bit worried that something would go wrong since Noelle had divine blood and the two of them had quite a bit of trouble conceiving. As a first time mother, she kept close track of the pregnancy and followed all the advice she could find. Both Liza and Lance were pretty much doing all they could to ensure everything went smoothly, but unfortunately, a mortal giving birth to even a semi-divine child is very dangerous, something neither of them were aware of since it was so rare, and Liza didn’t make it much longer after Noelle was born.
L. Where do they live (house, apartment, condo, etc) and how do they make it theirs?
The two of them lived with Lance’s clan in Blackthorn in the clan’s compound, essentially a mansion with multiple families living in it. They would often visit the Charicific Valley as well, since Liza would never abandon her precious Charizard. Especially when she was pregnant with Noelle, Liza liked to introduce her baby bump to all the Charizard there and she looked forward to one day introducing her daughter to them.
N. Where do they spend the holidays?
As Champion, Lance doesn’t get a lot of time off and travelling can be difficult, so most holidays were spent at home with his wife and family. They would often get together with Clair and Yellow for holidays and festivals and all celebrate together.
T. What do they butt heads about?
The two of them were both stubborn and hated backing down from an argument, so they butted heads fairly often, though it was rarely a serious fight. Usually it would be over how often they split the time between Blackthorn and the Charicific Valley or Lance not getting along with the clan elders again and Liza trying to convince him to suck it up and deal with them or any other annoyance like that. They would usually make up at the end of it, but it’s entirely possible their relationship wouldn’t have lasted very long, though it’s hard to say since Noelle could have brought the two of them together.
F. Who does the household chores and who is the handyman who fixes things around the house?
Lucian does most of the cleaning related chores since Dahlia is… messy, while he’s a total neat freak. Lucian will go full on apron and duster mode about once a month and deep clean their house. After he’s done he likes to just stand in the clean room and nod happily to himself. Dahlia, however, is the one who is good at fixing stuff. Lucian always tries to find some kind of step-by-step guide, while his wife manages to fix it within the time he’s still reading the instructions. Dahlia’s uncle is a mechanic, which is where she learned all her skills. She sometimes likes to pose like Rosie the Riveter after fixing the sink or something and her husband finds it adorable (the kids are a bit embarrassed).
H. Where do they like to go on vacation? For how long?
The two of them have pretty much yearly bookings to a couple’s spa retreat in Alola. Dahlia loves the beach and tropical atmosphere and just getting away from the frigid Sinnoh winters. Lucian likes to relax and unwind and get massages and facials. He’ll often be sitting under the beach umbrella while his wife searches for seashells and tries to get him to come swimming with her. The retreat is a week long and they go almost every winter when the weather’s the grimmest.
I. Who do they have babysit their kids?
Flint and Volkner are the popular choice. While he doesn’t have any of his own, Flint is great with kids (and Volkner keeps them alive so that’s all that matters) and he and his husband are happy to be the ‘League Babysitters’, meaning they’re the go-to whenever Lucian and Dahlia’s kids (as well as Emery and Tanith) need to be looked after. Natalia, Kyra, and Alan all refer to Flint and Volkner as their uncles and are pretty close with them.
L. Where do they live (house, apartment, condo, etc) and how do they make it theirs?
Their family have a house in Sunnyshore, which is also where Dawn’s family and Paul’s family live. It’s a pretty good size, since the Elite Four and Frontier Brains pay well, not to mention they’re a pretty sizable family at 5. Lucian is big into modern design, so there are a lot of clean edges and minimalist decorating. Dahlia on the other hand, loves big, bright, and loud decorations, so the house ends up following the ‘neutrals with a pop of color’ theme. Lucian likes to keep things pristine and clean, but there is still plenty of evidence of the house being lived in, like Natalia’s scattered coffee mugs, Kyra’s art projects from school, and Alan’s sewing equipment and projects. The house always smells faintly of flowers, thanks to Lucian’s Febreeze and Dahlia’s scented candles.
R. Who waits up (or, at least, tries to) for the other when they’re working late/getting back from a long trip?
They both try to wait up for the other if one of them is away or working late, and are both successful, but with different methods. Dahlia will stay up by exercising or cooking some treat for her husband to enjoy when he returns, while Lucian will keep a light on and stay in the living room reading while he waits for his wife to come home. They both drink tons of coffee to stay awake as well. They’re definitely a coffee family, both the parents and the kids (though Alan doesn’t like it much).
A. Who jams out in the car and who just rolls their eyes and grins?
B. Who insists they don’t need directions and who has the GPS app on their phone ready for whenever the other gets them lost?
C. Who is stubborn and who has to try to persuade the other one? Are they successful?
D. Who talks/snores in their sleep and who records it?
E. Who has ‘their spot’ on the couch and who sits in it just to annoy the other?
F. Who does the household chores and who is the handyman who fixes things around the house?
G. When/if they have a family, who records everything/makes the home videos?
H. Where do they like to go on vacation? For how long?
I. Who do they have babysit their kids?
J. How do they respond when they find out they’re pregnant?
K. Who watches cartoons, and who watches the true crime murder mysteries?
L. Where do they live (house, apartment, condo, etc) and how do they make it theirs?
M. Who is the sports nut and who’s just in it for the snacks?
N. Where do they spend the holidays?
O. Who uses corny pick up lines on the other even though they’ve been together for awhile?
P. Where do they like to kiss each other/be kissed by the other?
Q. When/if they get married, what are their vows like (planned, ad-libbed, serious, silly, etc)?
R. Who waits up (or, at least, tries to) for the other when they’re working late/getting back from a long trip?
S. What do they do to celebrate one another’s birthdays?
T. What do they butt heads about?
In order to minimize OC parents and due to my own preferences, Brendan, Wally & Anabel are now an OT3 pairing which, for lack of an official name, I have called FluoriteShipping. The three are happily married and use the surname Birch-Fang. The kids are the same as before, with Brendan’s daughter Eve added in, but I changed up the parents a bit since they seem like the kind of family where all of them would want their own kids. Layla and Edward are Wally & Anabel’s children, Rhys is Wally & Brendan’s son, and Eve is Brendan & Anabel’s daughter. I’ve updated the family page, directory, and relevant profiles with this information.

I added a new fankid ship recently, so I thought it would be nice to elaborate a bit on it. The ship is between Nerissa, the daughter of Erika and Valerie, and Luna, the daughter of Bugsy and Aaron. The two of them are both into traditional style and fashion and very much fit the ‘hime’ trope. Nerissa grew up wearing Valeries clothes and eventually became a professional model for them when she was older. She loves Wa Lolita fashion the most, favoring dresses that are both cute and have a traditional Kantonian flare to them. Towards the end of her teens, Nerissa also began designing her own clothing, and now has her own line of fashion and a small store in Celadon.
Luna embraces traditional culture in a different way. Rather than through fashion and etiquette like Nerissa, Luna is an avid herbalist. As a child, she loved exploring the Ilex Forest and Bugsy would point out all the different plants (and bugs) that lived there. Luna became interested in the medicinal use of plants when she watched the village elders make herbal medicine and began to learn the practice herself. Later on, she also began to experiment with making new types of medicine and vitamins, not only incorporating herbs, but also ingredients from her butterfly and moth pokémon companions.
The two first met in Celadon, when Luna visited there for a convention on botany. She and Nerissa happened to cross paths and it was practically love at first sight. They spent the weekend of the convention together and after Luna returned home, she found herself wanting to return to Kanto as soon as possible to see Nerissa again. They kept up email correspondence (and wrote letters as well, after Nerissa got Luna hooked on her hobby of collecting cute stationary). Eventually, after quite a bit of convincing her fathers (she was expected to be the next Gym Leader after Bugsy retired after all), Luna made the move to Kanto to live with Nerissa. She opened up the first major herb shop in Kanto right next to Nerissa’s boutique and the two are happily dating.
Their ship name comes from the name of the lunar princess from the Japanese folktale, the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. I chose it since it fits their shared traditional, princess-like aesthetic (the two are even known as the Princesses of Kanto by fans) as well as Luna’s name. The two are a very sweet couple and are a nice break from all the angsty stuff I’ve been posting recently.
5. Are they sexually confident or more of the shy type?
Sage acts like a suave, confident charmer but he actually gets very easily embarrassed when flirting. He’ll say some flirty and cheesy comment, but the moment a girl flirts back he turns into a blushing mess. He’s never dated either, so the whole charmer act is pretty much entirely for show. It’s very easy to tease him actually.
08. What is, perhaps, their biggest flaw? Are they aware of this or oblivious to it?
His biggest flaw is probably his overconfidence. He tends to think he and his friends and family are always right, and can be oblivious to criticism or his and their shortcomings. He’s not really aware of this, since by its very nature overconfidence creates a lot of blind spots. One of these days, Sage is going to be in for a rude awakening when he realizes that he and his loved ones aren’t flawless.
18. What kind of home would they want to live in? Where would they place this abode?
In theory, Sage’s dream house would be somewhere like Fortree in Hoenn. A treehouse surrounded by nature and flying types – perfect for a photographer like him. In practice, Sage wants to become the Viridian Gym Leader when his mother retires. He’d rather live in the city than in a small town like Pallet, though, so he’ll probably move to Viridian once he gets sick of living at his parents’ house.
27. If your character was going to get arrested, what would be the most likely reason for it?
Trespassing, probably. Sage tends to ignore outside factors like ‘laws’ when he wants to get a good shot. He’d most likely end up wandering onto someone’s private property tracking a rare pokémon and then try and talk his way out of it when he got caught rather than fess up, since he hates admitting his own wrongdoing that way.
Sure thing!
07. Is there a catchphrase or sound that they tend to make a lot (likely without being aware of it)?
Verbena whistles a lot without realizing it. She whistles when she’s working on a project, when she’s succeeded in something, when she spots something or someone she likes, she even has a little whistle/finger guns combo she does as a catchphrase à la Fantastic Mr. Fox. She knows she whistles a lot, she just doesn’t realize quite the extent of the habit.
16. Is your character the athletic type or more of a couch potato? What are some sports/games that they like?
You’d think an inventor/programmer like Verbena would be a couch potato, but she actually exercises quite a bit. She hates sitting down for too long and enjoys hitting the gym after a long day working bent over a computer screen. She knows some martial arts learned from Cilan, so she tends to put her favorite pump-up music and go at it with a punching bag for a few hours, or just hit the treadmill if she’s not feeling in the punching and kicking mood that day. She’s pretty in shape as a result, which many don’t realize thanks to her profession and habit of wearing baggy clothing.
20. Does your character like animals? What are some of their favorite animals? Would they want pets? What about mythological creatures?
Gonna sub in pokémon for animals here. Verbena likes electric and ghost types the best. Electric since she grew up surrounded by Clemont’s electric pokémon and learned how they can help out with all her mechanical needs. Ghost since she is a dark mage like Cilan and has an affinity for them, plus they can come in handy for her work as well, being able to go places she can’t and offering a different perspective. Verbena’s starter and closest pokémon is her Rotom, Widget, who is her go-to partner for all her programming needs. Widget usually lives in Verbena’s Holo Caster, but they’ll come out and cause mischief every once and a while.
23. What is your character like when it comes to school? What subjects are they good/bad at? Do they get in trouble a lot or are well behaved?
Verbena is one of those students who does very well in all her classes, but causes a lot of trouble outside of academics. She’s hacked the school network many times and put meme viruses on all the computers, played around with the security cameras, and blasted her favorite electronic music from all the loudspeakers. She got caught a few times at first and was sternly told off by both the Principal and her parents, but that just made her cover her tracks better the next times. A lot of her classmates love her for her pranks, but the teachers are all glad she’s in her last year of school.
30. When it comes to the arts (music, film, theater, etc), what does your character like?
Verbena likes electronic music, especially the headbanging kind. EDM, dubstep, house, etc. She prefers documentaries/non-fiction and sci-fi for movies and books and is subscribed to numerous science and engineering magazines covering a wide variety of topics. She’s not a huge theater person, unlike Cori, but she’ll go to all her baby brother’s shows when she can. Verbena is also an avid blogger, which is where a majority of her entertainment comes from. She’s a bit of a troll to be honest, and has fun getting into arguments with strangers on the internet and driving them crazy.
41. Does your character’s family affect your character in any way?
Definitely. Watching Clemont in his lab inspired Verbena to go into engineering herself and it was with his help that she built her first computer. Cilan was the one to teach her how to code (and to hack, which he later regretted after all the trouble she gets into) and the basics of martial arts. Basile definitely encouraged a lot of Verbena’s more dubiously legal pranks and helped her learn how to cover her tracks better. Cori is half of her motivation to do things she doesn’t want to do, like go see movies in genres she usually doesn’t like, or agree to open up a Maid Café themed Gym with her cousins, not to mention he tends to be the one to help her look more presentable when she goes out (’I refuse to let you leave the house in a sweatsuit!!!’)
