They only end up developing romantic feelings around 10ish years later when Ash stays in Sinnoh for a while and they end up interacting a lot more, but from there things move on the quicker side.
  • How was their first kiss? – Somewhat hesitant and awkward, initiated by Ash after their first formal date. Paul kissed him back more firmly and then declared the kiss “adequate” which set Ash off laughing. Overall very sweet.

Wedding:

  • Who proposed? – Paul (with help from Emery)
  • Who are {Paul’s} groom’s party? – Dawn, Lucas, Barry, Reggie, Hilda (haven’t talked about it yet on here but Paul/Hilda traveled together for 2 years in between the two BW games and end up very good friends. Conway in particular was Not Impressed (in a non-serious way) that Paul passed over any of his E4 coworkers in favor of Hilda lol)
  • Who are {Ash’s} groom’s party? – Misty, Brock, Gary, Goh, Serena (he had a list of 10+ people he wanted to be in his crew but eventually narrowed it down, that is to say I’m not implying these five are his closest friends since that’s doing May, Iris, Cilan, Clemont, etc etc dirty this is just how things worked out)
  • (Bonus: Owen (Reggie’s oldest son) was ringbearer, Emery & Jay (Paul’s daughter & Ash’s son), were the flower children)
  • Who did the most planning? – Serena, who respected her friends’ wish for a smaller ceremony but also is much better at event planning than either of them and also enjoyed it more than either of them would have

(Goh has primary custody of Jay, but Jay will stay with Ash & Paul over school holidays fairly often.)

  • Who is the more loved parent? – They’re definitely equally loved (though since Ash is sometimes easier to butter up into spoiling them/letting them off the hook… there may be claims that’s the “favorite” sometimes.)

  • Who cried the most at graduation? – Ash (Paul also teared up but refuses to admit it.)

Cooking:

  • Who does the grocery shopping? – Paul (Ash will sometimes go with a list Paul made but he always ends up buying random snacks and desserts not on the list just since he thought they looked interesting/good.)
  • How often do they bake desserts? – Paul enjoys baking desserts on weekends, usually every other week or so. He’ll post a poll in the family group chat (yes they have one) on what he should make the week before he plans on baking.
  • Are they more of a meat lover or a salad eater? – When Paul cooks (which is usually) they’re a fairly healthy more salad-eater family. When it’s just Ash and the kids for dinner, expect junk food, pizza take out, etc.
  • Who is more likely to surprise the other(s) with an anniversary dinner? – Ash, with reservations at a fancy restaurant.
  • Who is more likely to suggest going out? – Ash
  • Who is more likely to burn the house down accidentally while cooking? – Ash

Chores:

  • Who cleans the room? – They have the cleaning duties split up in between them by room (Paul handles the kitchen, living room, etc. Ash handles the bathroom, their bedroom, etc)
  • Who is really against chores? – Ash, but he’s not really against them he’ll just put them off sometimes.
  • Who cleans up after the pokémon? – Both, though Ash especially likes taking care of/spoiling Paul’s pokémon along with his own.

  • Who stresses the most when guests are coming over? – Neither, but also anytime guests are over it’s always very casual so not much to stress over.

Morty/Falkner!

who is more likely to get injured doing small tasks – Morty tbh haha. He’s a bit spacier than the more methodical Falkner and is also likely to get distracted by a spirit while working on something.

who worries more about the other – Falkner. He’s prone to worrying in general and especially after losing Janine (even if it was something they both knew was coming long before it happened) he tends to fuss over Morty a lot. His biggest concern is something supernatural happening to his husband that he won’t be able/equipped to help with. (This habit of worrying extends to their children as well, he’s definitely a rather overprotective parent.)

who is more afraid about the other leaving them – Morty. While the whole situation was very complicated and is over and done with, Falkner did break up with him to marry Janine, when you break it down to bare basics, and that does still sting for Morty even now. While he knows that it’s extremely unlikely such a situation could arise for either of them now, the fact that it did happen places a seed of doubt in Morty’s mind sometimes.

who is more likely to leave (for any reason) – Probably Morty? After everything it’d take a pretty serious situation for either of them to leave the other, but Morty’s line of work (dealing with spirits/people’s ghost issues) is dangerous and he knows that Falkner isn’t the hugest fan of it. If he ever felt like he’d maybe attracted some bad attention from a powerful ghost/spirit or was putting his family in danger in any way, he’d leave for their sake. Falkner knows this and doesn’t like it at all, but does understand. It’s probably one of the most common things they argue about.

who is more likely to drunkenly confess – Falkner. While he’s usually on the more reserved side, he’s more open about his feelings when tipsy. Drinking usually just makes Morty fall asleep.

who is more likely to push the other away (for any reason) – It depends on when in their relationship we’re talking? If it’s earlier on, then Falkner, who tended to dislike showing ‘weakness’ in front of Morty and preferred being alone when he was having a bad time. However, as things progress he ends up being more clingy and while he never is the type to initiate talking about his feelings when he’s upset, he prefers if Morty were nearby or just holding him quietly when he needs it. Morty would be the more likely one then later on, since sometimes things can be overwhelming for him between his empathy and his spiritual awareness and he just needs some alone time.

who picks fights more often – Falkner. He tends to start arguments more just since he speaks his mind more openly than Morty does, so if his husband is doing something he finds objectionable he’ll say it outright, even if it leads to an argument.

who usually apologizes first – Morty. Even if he doesn’t know what he’s apologizing for. If he senses that Falkner is upset, he’ll usually apologize, which Falkner finds quite annoying since why apologize if you don’t even know if you did anything? But at least it usually leads to Falkner talking about why he’s upset, and if he knows he started the argument/fight he’ll typically apologize first since he’s quick to anger quick to cool.

who is more likely to withhold their feelings for the other – Morty. He knows he’s a bit… odd and intense in a way that a lot of people would probably find off-putting, so he’d rather wait for someone he was interested in to make the first move. (Which is probably why he attracts people like Falkner and Jasmine who are indeed the type to make the first move if they think they have a shot.)

who is more likely to lash out at the other – Falkner. Though that’s not to say Morty doesn’t have his moments, especially when he’s stressed and/or overwhelmed.

who gets more jealous – Falkner. He went through a lot to end up where he is now, finally married to Morty, so anything or anyone that he thinks threatens that… (Morty, on the other hand, despite the one who was in a situation where the man he loved was married to someone else, just isn’t the type to get jealous. He mainly just felt sad about himself during that time period and tried to move on and wish Falkner the best.)

who is more likely to support the other in a relationship with someone else “as long as they’re happy” – MORTY MORTY MORTY. It already happened earlier in their relationship haha. (Though in that case it was a bit of a situation of “As long as you’re happy, Falkner, I’ll support yours and Janine’s relationship.” “But it’s an arranged marriage, Morty, and Janine said she doesn’t mind if we keep seeing each other.” “No it’s ok, I understand, you don’t have to make concessions for little old me I’ll be able to move on, please, be happy with her.” “……… for an empath you sure are dense sometimes.”)

Lol so it’s coincidence after all. Still hilarious. I love black clover you see so my mind immediately thought of it upon reading the names the first time. Anyways, I’m interested now in Asta and Nero, do you have any arts/picrews of them? Can you talk about them a little? Thank you in advance :)

Sure! I will share some stuff about their fam first since it’s relevant to their designs. (Sorry in advance for this getting long.) For some reason I thought I had made a post about what the Pokémon Go leaders (+ Arlo) are up to in this verse but I maybe didn’t? So I’ll just do a quick breakdown here with a focus on the parents of these kids. All three of the team leaders are Kanto League Gym Trainers in this AU: Candela in Cinnabar, under Gym Leader Shouju, Blanche in Cerulean, under Gym Leader Daisy (who specializes in Ice-types), and Spark in Vermillion under Gym Leader Visquez (who is Surge’s successor in the Journeys anime!). (Ok it did get very long so will add a cut here.)

Spark does have a close bond with Lt. Surge (as evidenced by the shared surname), but they’re not related by blood. When getting ideas for how to implement Go characters in this verse I did poke around to see what hcs people had for them, and saw a fair amount of Spark – Lt. Surge and Arlo – Giovanni relation hcs (along with a lot of wonderful Sparlo art which tipped me in favor of the ship haha) so decided those would work well for me as well! In this case, when Spark was young he ended up being orphaned and was struggling on his own, and Surge, a young gym leader at the time, took him under his wing. Spark isn’t formally adopted into the Surge family until after the Lt. and Violet marry, however. Lavender & Heather see him as an uncle, since he’s not that much younger than their parents.

Arlo gets the convoluted RocketFam drama backstory since when isn’t Gio’s family convoluted. Basically the idea I had was to incorporate him into Giovanni and Ariana’s (honesty notorious) on-again-off-again marriage and run with the idea from one particular manga adaptation that Gio has a twin brother. The twin, who I named Giorgio, has actually existed in this verse for a long time (he’s been on Renato & Celeste’s profiles from the beginning I think), but I’ve never really done anything with him so this was my chance! What happened, essentially, is that after Ariana discovered her husband’s affair with Delia she decided to retaliate by having an affair with his brother, which resulted in Arlo (so he’s both the half-brother and cousin to Mars & Silver, along with being Ash & Gabe’s cousin). He’s raised by his father in another region and isn’t super involved with TR until he’s older. I’m still working on how he fits into the modern, Silver-run, somewhat-reformed Rocket and how the Sparlo relationship unfolds but this is the basic backstory.

Ok now finally for Asta and Nero. They’re still heavily in development but I have done a basic Picrew design for both of them. Here they are!

The reason the backstories were relevant for their designs is just since I used grandparents Ariana & Giorgio for some of their looks. Arlo inherited Ariana’s red eyes & Giorgio’s black hair, but Asta inherits Giorgio’s purple eyes and Nero inherits Ariana’s red hair (though his is darker than hers.)

Asta is a very energetic troublemaker type of girl who loves exploring outside and is prone to impulsive stunts. While she’s a trainer, she’s not super interested in the League or anything like that and I have vague plans for her to end up as a pokémon breeder and open a pokémon refuge/sanctuary when she’s older. Basically I channeled a lot of the Team Instinct memes with her haha.

Nero is less developed, but I know he’s the calm and more serious counterpart to his outgoing sister. He’s a bit edgy, especially in his teen years (I like to imagine him dyeing some black streaks in his hair in sort of an opposite look to his father’s dyed red streaks which just makes Asta constantly call him a Zoroark lol). I think he’s probably friends with his cousin Celeste since they’re around the same age, but that’s not super developed yet either. I also have some vague ideas for friendships with the Gary/Goh/Horace kids, but again it’s all still under development.

Asta and Nero? Is this a reference to Black Clover?

I’d heard of Black Clover but have never watched or read it so the names are definitely a coincidence! I just went and looked the characters up and was very surprised that not only does the series have two characters with the same name (though only sort of in Nero’s case from what I read on the wiki), but they’re even main/major characters with a close bond, haha.

For my fankids, I really did just pick two names that I thought were nice, that’s my whole reasoning. Asta’s nickname was mainly to differentiate her from the canon character Astrid, and also since I think the name is cute, and then Nero got his name/nickname since the rest of his family have a longer name + nickname, so the names all flowed together a bit better. I find the accidental parallels hilarious though!

Ingo/Emmet/Concordia 😏

who is more likely to get injured doing small tasks – Emmet, most likely. He can get a bit overenthusiastic, and when he’s on a roll he can not realize if he’s hurt himself in that enthusiasm until Ingo or Concordia notices and makes him sit down so they can get out the first aid kit.
who worries more about the other – This is a hard one since all of them have their own worries over each other in different ways? Concordia worries that she can’t always keep up with or be there for her partners since they’re so different (both in personality and species), the brothers worry about each other like they’ve always done, but also worry about Concordia, but then in different ways. Emmet worries about providing for her and making her happy even though she’s a human and they’re not. Ingo worries that being with her will throw off the dynamic he and Emmet have had for centuries… at the same time, they’re all pretty good at communicating, so these worries usually don’t fester.
who is more afraid about the other leaving them – I’m going to answer this with a curveball and say it’s their son Janus who worries about his parents breaking up. As in, while Concordia loves her partners, she knows that their relationship might not last and is happy to enjoy it as it happens, while the brothers know full well that their relationship with Concordia is going to be transient in the long run (as these things always are for them and humans). But Janus has only known his parents being together, so he dreads the day when that might no longer be the case and as a result can be clingy about wanting all four of them to spend time together.
who is more likely to leave (for any reason) – Concordia. Emmet and Ingo are ride or die for each other and always have been, while she’s the newcomer to a long-established dynamic. Half the reason she even moved in with them rather than keeping things casual was because of Janus, so if things ever start going south, she’s the one who’d step back without much fuss, taking things with grace as she always does. (This doesn’t mean the twins won’t want to try to convince her to stay though! They definitely have both come to care about her a lot even if such feelings were maybe unexpected.)
who is more likely to drunkenly confess – None of them? I can see Emmet and Concordia both being affectionate drunks though (Emmet more clingy and Concordia just wanting to cuddle and fall asleep). Ingo has to carry them both home haha. 
who is more likely to push the other away (for any reason) – Ingo can be standoffish when he’s in one of his moods. Especially earlier on with Concordia, who he had reservations about. She and Emmet were originally just seeing each other, but Ingo is a package deal with Emmet so he got involved and let’s just say he wasn’t sure getting so close with a human like her was a good idea. Would just invite trouble.
who picks fights more often – None of them really fight much? But again, Ingo I suppose. Can be surly sometimes, but his fights are almost always with Emmet and are the usual arguments they’ve always had that get resolved quickly. Concordia is scary whenever she gets involved with a fight so the twins have both learned not to test her patience. Or both will be sleeping on the couch. 
who usually apologizes first – They’re a weird trio where they don’t really apologize with words but with actions? Make it up after a fight by doing something nice for the other(s). So it’s hard to tell who’s usually the first since it’s often mutual.
who is more likely to withhold their feelings for the other – Ingo and Concordia for sure. The slowburn branch of the relationship, while Emmet was very quick to grow infatuated with Concordia. She on the other hand was wary of growing attached to anyone after her upbringing, especially people so… different as the twins, while Ingo had similar reluctance. So obvs Emmet just decided to play matchmaker between the two so all three could be happy! Somehow it worked. He’s just talented like that. 
who is more likely to lash out at the other – None of them, really. 
who gets more jealous – Ingo, sometimes, but he refuses to acknowledge these feelings. It can be hard to share when you’ve been with someone exclusively for so long.
who is more likely to support the other in a relationship with someone else “as long as they’re happy”: – The twins for Concordia. Both of them know they’re probably not the most ideal boyfriends for someone more normal like Concordia, so if she found a nice human person to settle down with… that’s fine! Even better! (Just as long as they can still see Janus though, of course. That boy is spoiled and doted on by all his parents.)

Can you explain more about the OC Grandparents?

Sure! The OC grandparents listed are all parents of canon characters who don’t have names or extended appearances in the games or anime (this would include characters such as Johanna, Grace, Meyer, etc) In some cases my depiction of the grandparents might differ a bit from canon, such as Red and Leaf’s mother having red hair instead of brown, but in general, the game protags’ mothers fit in here! 

I will continue to update the directory as I develop more characters but currently, the identities of the grandparents listed in that section are as follows:

  • Aiden Aoyama & Scarlett Yuukoku – Red & Leaf’s parents. Aiden was a Gym Trainer at the Viridian Gym, but goes missing and is presumed deceased 5 years before Red goes on his journey, while Scarlett, is the mother seen in the RBGY and FRLG games. (She also happens to be Blaine’s daughter and only child.)
  • Charlie & Flora Oak – Daisy, Gary & Green’s parents. Both were researchers and passed away 7 years before Gary’s journey and 9 years before Green’s journey.
  • Isabel Suzuki & Angelo Papavero – Lyra’s parents. Isabel is the mother seen in the HGSS games, while Angelo is a total OC who is a childhood friend and right hand to Giovanni. Isabel broke up with him when she found out that he was involved with a criminal organization and Lyra doesn’t know about him until after the events of HGSS.
  • Zack Teruya – Ethan’s father and a single dad. A mysterious foreigner who was taken in by the Daycare Couple when they found him and baby Ethan lost and in need of somewhere to stay. He and his son later take the couple’s surname and move to Newbark, though remain close with them, thus Ethan views the Daycare Couple as his grandparents even if they aren’t blood-related.
  • Violet Touma – Reggie & Paul’s mother. She was an archeologist like her husband but passed away in a freak accident while on-site when Paul was a baby. She also happened to be the older sister of Lila, Johanna’s old rival, who is Ursula’s mother, making Ursula the cousin of Reggie and Paul (something she and Paul both like to ignore.)
  • Diana Montfort – Hilda & Hilbert’s mother. Nothing much to say here, she’s pretty much just the canon BW mom. Of note is that she’s descended from nobility and inherited a manor house/château (most of which is now a museum) that she and her children live in a section of and which she helps maintain, rather than the regular house the BW protag lives in in canon.
  • Harper Montfort & Tia Nocita – Nate & Rosa’s parents. Harper is the twin brother of Diana and while he and Tia aren’t married, they are in a steady relationship. Harper travels a lot and isn’t home very often. He’s had a lot of jobs over the years, including as a Sinnoh Frontier Brain where he became good buddies with Palmer. (He also has some bad habits, especially in his youth, like gambling away the family inheritance, but settled down once his children were born.) Tia is the canon BW2 mom and like in canon, used to be a Pokémon Center nurse.
  • Robert Aubert – Serena’s father. He’s a very normal businessman of Kalosian birth who worked for Clay’s mining company in an office/managerial position. He’s not super familiar with the life of a pokémon trainer but supports his daughter wholeheartedly when she sets out on her journey. During XY, he was finishing up business in Unova before moving in with his wife and daughter in Kalos and was very confused and surprised to find out his daughter had helped save the region when he finally made it.
  • Zéphyrine Sycamore – Alain & Calem’s mother. The older sister of Professor Sycamore, she passed away when Alain was a child and Calem a toddler and her boyfriend couldn’t handle the loss and abandoned his children not long after, leading the boys to be raised by their grandparents and uncle.
  • Orion & Clarissa Kagami – Selene & Elio’s father and stepmother. Orion was a single father who married Clarissa, the canon SuMo mom, when his twins were about 5 or so. He passed away not long before the start of SuMo, and the family’s move to Alola was a way for them to get a fresh start after his mysterious death. (This backstory is still in development, but my idea was for Selene & Elio’s family situation to be similar to Gladion & Lillie’s, with a disappeared dad.)
  • Nichola & Auberon Ellington – Victor & Gloria’s parents. In what is now a running theme, Auberon went missing 5 or so years before the SwSh plot, though he actually is alive and is found/comes back after the plot so this one has a happy ending!! Nichola is the canon SwSh mum. Oh, and also Auberon is a fairy prince and one of the two heroes of legend, though his kids don’t find this out until the postgame when Victor meets his old friend “Uncle Bunny” Calyrex.

Of the characters listed in the “OC Adults & Historical Characters” section on my directory, everyone starting from Sir Aaron is a historical character, with most of them being the past lives of certain fankids or adults who are reincarnations. Seamus is an original Team Plasma member and Cress’s ex-boyfriend, you can just picture him looking like the generic grunt with orange hair and blue eyes.

Agnar, Dimitriy, and Jeremiah are all OCs that are related! The three of them are brothers, despite the different surnames, and are all the same kind of immortal being. In fact, they’re actually the younger brothers of Solomon (who currently is the adopted son and youngest child of Cynthia & Diantha). Their kind used to serve the deities that Arceus and Giratina were created from (that is, Ellam and Jeshir) and these four, in particular, are all the direct creations of Jeshir, making them basically his sons (and Tanith’s older siblings!)

Due to events that took place thousands of years ago when Jeshir became Giratina, they and a number of their kin lost a lot of their powers and ended up stuck in the mortal plane, though they retained their immortality. Basically, the way it works is that their bodies can be killed, but if that happens they’ll simply regenerate in the form of a child (like a phoenix), weakened, and will regain their powers as they grow, eventually ceasing to age once they’re fully grown and living on until they end up with another fatal injury and regenerate again, over and over.

Over time, the brothers all went their separate ways and all have lived many different lives over the course of history, so these are just their current identities! Agnar lives in poké!Scandinavia in a remote cabin as an outdoorsman, Dimitriy travels the world as a hitchhiker and sightseer, and Jeremiah is currently a wealthy Kalosian playboy just living it up. Solomon was a scholar until he ended up regenerating in Sinnoh after an unexpected accident (or was it an accident…) and was mistaken as an abandoned child by some hikers who found him by chance, which eventually led to his adoption by Cynthia and Diantha. He’s aware of Jeshir though and his original father being in Sinnoh is the main reason he sticks with his new family. His brothers are also aware of how their father and uncle have reverted to their original forms, as well as how they now have a new baby sister, and the three of them will play a role in Tanith, Solomon & Balthazar’s story as well as the main plot.

There’s more to this backstory, involving a fifth brother who they don’t talk about and more lore about their kind but this is getting long enough as it is so I’ll save it for a later post!

Draco/Cypress 👀

who is more likely to get injured doing small tasks – Draco, while trying to show off. “I can do this with my eyes closed, see? Easy!”

who worries more about the other – Cypress worries about Draco a lot since he knows Draco doesn’t worry enough about himself. Or rather, he knows that Draco will put himself down and beat himself up and not take care of himself, so he wants to be the person who can help him focus on his own wellbeing. Years of being the eldest brother showing.

who is more afraid about the other leaving them – Draco. He’s afraid of pretty much all his loved ones leaving him and Cypress is no exception. It’s the reason he tries to keep their relationship purely physical at first, not wanting to admit he’s catching feelings since he knows it will make any future rejection all the more painful.

who is more likely to leave (for any reason) – Both of them. Draco because he’s afraid of commitment and isn’t sure he can handle a relationship, Cypress because he struggles to picture himself settling down, not when there’s still so much of the world to see and when he’s still trying to find his parents. Better not to get too attached to spare himself those bonds fraying with time and distance.

who is more likely to drunkenly confess – DRACO

who is more likely to push the other away (for any reason) – Draco. He constantly pushes Cypress’s attempts to be more emotionally intimate away for fear of growing too attached.

who picks fights more often – Both of them. They’re both hotheaded and easily get into arguments. They bicker almost constantly, but most of the time it’s just banter and is how they flirt.

who usually apologizes first – Cypress. Draco will apologize for smaller things, but getting him to apologize for bigger incidents is like pulling teeth.

who is more likely to withhold their feelings for the other – BOTH OF THEM. Denial denial denial is where their relationship is at for a long time.

who is more likely to lash out at the other – Draco. Cypress tends to bicker more and is overall grumpier, but Draco has the worse temper.

who gets more jealous – Draco. He has a nasty possessive streak that he does his best to ignore, but it’s there. He doesn’t like to talk about it, but seeing other people making Cypress happy makes him feel like a failure. He should be the one making him happy, Cypress should have eyes only for him, since he’s so important to Draco.

who is more likely to support the other in a relationship with someone else “as long as they’re happy” – Cypress. It’d be very bittersweet for him. Draco was someone he could imagine having a future with, sometimes, but above all he was someone he wanted to be happy, so he’ll support him and try not to think about what-ifs. Maybe one day someone else will come along, but Cypress can’t imagine that happening anytime soon. Draco really is someone he’ll never forget meeting.
