Why did Lyra take over the Violet Gym? Is Falkner kind of releated to her? (oop- i ship them xD)

Lyra took over the Violet Gym because Falkner chose her as his successor! They’re not related apart from her deciding to work at the Gym at some point after the end of the HGSS story. Lyra, in this verse, likes Flying-types and wanted to continue being a pokémon trainer and hone her skills, so she gets a job as a Gym Trainer at the Violet Gym. Eventually, she ends up becoming Falkner’s right hand, essentially, so when he marries Janine and moves to Kanto, he chooses her as his replacement. Even when he later moves back to Johto, Falkner doesn’t take his previous position, so Lyra continues to be the Violet Gym leader into the fankid era, specializing in Flying-types like her mentor.

As for shipping them – I can definitely see Lyra having a bit of a crush on him at least! Though I doubt it went both ways since Falkner was already either with, or at least close to dating, Morty at that point, I think.

Do you have any headcanons for Archie/Maxie, Steven/Wallace, and Lysandre/Sycamore?

Oh hell yeah I do. These are three of my fave ships after all. So it is going to get a bit long whoops.

  • I like the hc that the two are exes by the time ORAS happens and it fuels their rivalry. I definitely also like the hc that the team they used to be on together was Team Rocket, but like back in its old days when Gio was this cocky young aspiring criminal mastermind and Delia and Miyamoto were also there… good times. Archie was a grunt and Maxie was a scientist! Lots of fun spicy times back then, until they both left the team to pursue their own ambitions and grew estranged…
  • After ORAS they merge their teams after getting funding/support from the Aether Foundation to establish a Hoenn branch, thus becoming “Team Aether” in a sense. Since Rayquaza represents the sky and aether is the element that exists above the terrestrial sphere (like where Rayquaza lives…) it’s a fitting route for them! Like their parent foundation, Hoenn Aether focuses on conservation and pokémon rehabilitation, essentially the goals of Team Aqua and Magma but without all the extremism. Archie & Maxie are the co-leaders now and while they’re an unconventional duo they make it work and get a lot done.
  • Kiran was a total accident and the two weren’t even fully reconciled/back to their old relationship when Maxie found out he was expecting. Legit she was conceived only a few months post ORAS whoops. Maxie claims he’ll never forgive Archie for it, but they both love their daughter and she was in many ways what fully brought both teams together (in both the reconciliation sense and the romantic sense as I ship the admins together as well haha.)
  • Archie actually picked the name Kiran out (as conciliation for accidentally knocking Maxie up haha), as it can have multiple meanings in different languages. It can be from Sanskrit and means “dust” or “sunbeam”, tying into Archie’s heritage but also the Team Magma theme. As a Japanese name, the kanji used are 磯藍, meaning “seashore” and “indigo”, tying into Maxie’s heritage but also the Team Aqua theme. Archie is very proud of himself for coming up with it.

  • Steven and Wallace have been friends since childhood, having met through Steven’s father Joseph being old friends with Wallace’s grandfather Drake. They set out on their pokémon journey together, with Steven challenging the Hoenn League and Wallace aiming for that year’s Grand Festival. However, after Steven’s other father, Célestin, passes away that year Steven decides to go to Sinnoh rather than remain in Hoenn and be stuck at home with Joseph, who he had a strained relationship with at that point. Wallace of course goes with him, sympathizing with his friend as he’d lost his own parents unexpectedly in a storm some years previously.
  • While in Sinnoh the two end up befriending Cynthia, though she and Steven are initially rather antagonistic rivals. They’ll deny this as adults and claim they’ve always gotten along (Wallace is quick to correct them every time.)
  • The two were dating and had been for quite a long time by ORAS, though they hadn’t tied the knot yet. I do like the idea of them getting engaged during the events of the game, then getting married the summer after, either not long before the Delta Episode happens or right after. Steven would have been happy with a small event but Wallace of course wanted a huge wedding. I’m sure there was plenty of fun drama thanks to all the coordinators who attended (coughHarleycough).
  • When it came to choosing names for their children, Steven wanted rock names of course, while Wallace was more reluctant about those, wanting nice elegant names. In the end, they came up with two rock names and two non-rock names (one of each for both masculine and feminine names). Wallace did quality control the rock names though since he didn’t want Steven choosing any “weird” ones like Bort or something. Since their first children were twins, they used one of each – Maia for the girl (after May) and Jasper for the boy. Wallace ends up using the other name he picked out for their next child, a son named Alphonse. Steven was gunning for another child so he could use Larimar, but since that didn’t happen (Wallace was firm that three was enough) he’s set his sights on their first grandchild getting that name.

  • I hc Lysandre as being a bit younger than Augustine, so they first met in a more mentor/student capacity back in Lysandre’s research days. He admired Augustine’s research and was excited for the chance to work with him. They quickly became friends and that eventually led to romance. However, they became a bit more distant after Lysandre left to start his own company, mainly due to both being busier than ever and no longer working together. They remained a couple, but there was a bit of a rift there that led to Augustine not noticing Lysandre slip further and further into extreme views.
  • Their son was conceived shortly before Lysandre enacted his plan to use the ancient weapon, intended to be a final intimate moment before the world changed forever. Instead of that happening though, of course, Augustine was left finding out he was expecting after the final battle, when Lysandre was presumed dead. He had assumed his symptoms were due to grief and shock at everything that happened, but finding out the true cause was another rollercoaster of emotions. He keeps it a secret for as long as he can, but eventually others noticed and while he never does outright say who the other parent is… it’s pretty obvious to anyone since he had always happily broadcasted his relationship with Lysandre. When their son is born, Augustine chooses to name him Florian as a way to honor his (presumed) late partner.
  • Of course, in this verse, Lysandre wasn’t actually dead but had rather been spending time rethinking his life choices in “so you tried to destroy the world, what now?” bootcamp with AZ. He does eventually decide to come back like five years later and is certainly surprised when he finds out he has a kid. There are a lot of road bumps but things eventually work out and he and Augustine get back together. (There’s more on this in Florian’s profile.)
  • Augustine’s red socks were a gift from Lysandre for his birthday that Lys was very apologetic about since he thought they weren’t enough, so to prove that any gift from Lys was perfect, Augustine has regularly worn them ever since.
  • Alain and Calem are Augustine’s nephews in this verse and while their grandparents became their primary guardians after their mother passed away, Augustine was always more of a father figure to them, as was Lysandre after he and Augustine started dating. So, in some sense they had a bit of practice parenting before Florian came along, though due to everything their relationship with their nephews is complicated.

So, what happened to Ryuki relationship with Malva and Cross?

Both are past relationships Ryuki had, though they were fairly different. With Malva, she attended some of his concerts when he was touring in Kalos and was able to meet him backstage thanks to her connections. One thing led to another and the two ended up having a fling that lasted a few weeks. Once Ryuki returned to Alola, however, he and Malva never spoke to each other again, both understanding that their relationship was purely physical and temporary.

What Ryuki didn’t expect was that this fling resulted in him becoming pregnant. He decided to keep the baby and Nasuka was born 9 months later. Ryuki wasn’t about to halt his career just since he had had a baby though, so much of Nasuka’s early life was spent on the road, being looked after by the crew while her dad performed. Eventually, however, Ryuki settled more permanently in Alola, where he opened his Kanto-style Gym.

Some years later, Ryuki and Cross met for the first time when the latter was challenging his “Gym”. They also ended up in a relationship that’s mostly physical, but this time things were a bit more serious and lasted longer. Cross never fully moved in with Ryuki, but he was around pretty frequently which Nasuka didn’t appreciate much, as Cross wasn’t really a fan or her or kids in general. This is also why, when he and Ryuki end up expecting a child together, their relationship kind of collapses. Cross didn’t want a kid at all but Ryuki thought having another brat around would be cute – they weren’t able to compromise, so Ryuki just broke up with him.

That said… once Briar was born, Ryuki was just as hands-off as he had been with Nasuka, which resulted in Nasuka having to half-raise her little brother herself since their father was off working on his music or at his Gym so much. Having to look after her little brother all the time means that Nasuka spends a lot of time at home rather than being able to go out, so she ends up on the internet drawing spicy doujinshi and most of her friends were made online. This is how she ends up meeting Cyril and is significant to his storyline!

Do Aurora and Nasuka know about each other?

Aurora does not know about Nasuka, but Nasuka knows about Aurora!

In more detail, Malva actually isn’t aware of Nasuka, or at least has never confirmed that Nasuka is her daughter. She hooked up with Ryuki during one of his tours in Kalos, but he’d moved on by the time he even realized he was pregnant, so Nasuka is either born on the road or back in Alola, with Malva none the wiser. As such, Aurora doesn’t know about her half-sister since Malva, not knowing herself, would have never mentioned it.

Nasuka on the other hand, while not 100% sure, has a pretty good idea that Malva is her mother. Ryuki never confirmed it was her, just saying that Nasuka’s mother was someone he met on tour and had a brief fling with, but based on Nasuka’s own looks and what she can piece together from her father’s account, she’s able to figure out that Malva might be the one. So, when she looked up what Malva was doing currently, Nasuka found out she had married Glacia and had a daughter, who would most likely be her half-sister. She’s not sure yet what to do with the information.

What caused Lorelei and Yukihiro to be divorced?

Yukihiko is one of the former Legendary Pokémon who returned to his human form due to the machinations of this AU’s main evil team/antagonists, Team Oracle. The exact details of how he and Lorelei met and ended up married is still something I’m working on, but either way they get together and have one child, a son named Finn.

I think I’ve mentioned this previously, but Team Oracle is targeting both the former Legendaries themselves and people connected to them, including their children. While on their pokémon journey, Finn and his childhood friend Rihito (the son of former Entei and Moltres) are take prisoner by the team to be used in their plans, though when this happens nobody knows that Team Oracle is responsible as they’d stayed mostly underground up to that point (it’s roughly around the same time Emery and co. start their own journey.)

Losing their only child under mysterious circumstances with no leads on if he’s even alive puts a big strain on Lorelei and Yukihiko’s relationship, which eventually leads to them living separately. I might not have them actually finalize a divorce, but for all intents and purposes, they’re no longer together. However, when Finn (and everyone else who had been captured by Team Oracle) are rescued during the main plot, there’s a good chance his parents will get back together.

Drasna/Malva would make a good couple.

I actually have endgames planned for both of these characters already!

Drasna is Wulfric’s secret wife (the one only mentioned in supplementary materials) just since I thought they would be cute, and I’m a sucker for “contrasting type specialties” ships, so a dragon-type trainer and an ice-type trainer seemed like they would be fun. I do know that the woman in Wulfric’s locket has brown hair rather than black like Drasna, but she could easily have dyed it, especially since one of the kids in the picture has dark hair!

As for Malva, I’ve recently grown fond of the idea of her and Glacia as a ship, so I’ll tentatively be reviving my old Glacia fankid, Aurora, with this ship rather than Glacia/Morgan. She’s still a coordinator and will probably be a rival for Levi and Lydia!

Do you have any major inspirations (storytelling, art, characters, etc.) when it comes to your verse?

I definitely do! I’ve loved the fantasy genre for a long time, so that’s what inspired me to make a fantasy AU for the Pokémon world, with magic, mythical creatures, and lots of myth/lore-oriented worldbuilding. My original inspiration for this was way back when I was in elementary school and I watched Lucario and the Mystery of Mew for the first time – this movie introduced me to the idea of combining pokémon and fantasy in a way I’d never thought of before, so it’s still a very special movie for me (and my fave pokémon movie in general).

A lot of the ways magic works, how people interact with the supernatural, and the like are all inspired by the fantasy media I’ve consumed over the years, but there’s not one source that’s the main inspiration. However, the concept of dragonbloods, apart from deriving just from my love of dragons, was inspired by a few different pokémon fanfics I’ve read where humans have types like pokémon do – Triumverate and its spinoffs by Renaerys in particular.

The story beats from L&L have some inspiration from other media as well. The main plot has some Pokémon Mystery Dungeon and Tales of Symphonia inspiration (among others), for example, and a number of more minor fankids are direct expies of fictional characters (just because I felt like it haha). Other minor plotlines might just be inspired by things I like since I wanted to explore how that story would work in the verse I’ve created – like how the Alola kids have a Stranger Things-esque story. This is one of the big reasons I have so many fankids – I just want to be able to play around with many different kinds of stories.

In terms of other people, I’m friends with a number of others in the Pokémon Fankid community and we’ll often discuss ideas. In particular, @pkmnomegaverse and I talk a lot about story and character ideas and come up with a lot of different things together, so that’s why there’s some overlap in our two AUs! We both draw inspiration from each other constantly since we’re often discussing ideas for fankids, the parents, plot points, etc. The whole community in general is a huge inspiration since discovering it is what gave me the idea to make fankids in the first place, and that led to everything else in the AU.

[insert pen emoji] + Verbena? c:

(Verbena is one of my Cilan/Clemont kids!)

She’s technology oriented like Clemont is, but rather than inventions and robots, she enjoys coding and programming, especially thinks like code-cracking, writing robot AI, and hacking. If there’s a puzzle to solve that involves code, Verbena is going to want to take it apart and tackle it.

That said, she also has a habit of messing with tech she shouldn’t and has gotten in trouble with school before for messing with teacher’s displays and the like. Whenever they get a call from school about her, Clemont is sure to give Cilan his best stink-eye since Cilan was the one who sparked her interest in coding in the first place (it being something he’s good at.)

Verbena is a pokémon trainer, but she’s not got any real ambitions beyond learning new things and spending time with her computers, so her parents sort of pressure her into trying to challenge the Kalos League to give her something to do (and she actually ends up really liking it, enjoying these high-stakes battles more than just fun battles with her fathers or brothers.) I’m not sure yet who she travels with though.

🖊 + Susanna

I did a quick sketch of her design since it’s one I’ve had in mind for a while now:

image

– She’s Sonia and Nessa’s only child and is an aspiring scientist like her mother and great-grandmother. I can see her focus being on marine pokémon thanks to all the time she spent with Nessa’s pokémon and by the water growing up.

– She’s got a fair amount of admirers, but dislikes the attention since she’s sure they’re all only interested in her for superficial reasons like her looks or because her parents are famous. She’ll shut down anyone who seems like they might be a fan which has led to her getting a bit of a reputation for being “cold” (also thanks to her RBF lol.)

– Her best friend is Nasrin (Leon/Raihan/Piers) and the two have known each other since childhood since their parents of course are all friends. Nasrin is also fairly serious like Susanna is, so they get along well and often will hang out together when Nasrin’s not busy training to try and beat Champion Victor.

– Her starter is a Feebas she caught with her mothers’ help in the lake behind her great-grandmother’s house on Route 2. I thought it would be cute for her to befriend one after watching the Twilight Wings episode focusing on Nessa. Susanna doesn’t battle, though, so her Milotic is more of a research assistant. She’ll often ride Milotic in the water while studying aquatic pokémon in their natural habitats.

🖊 + Ione?

Ahhh I haven’t talked about her too much but Ione is my baby. Some fun facts:

  • Her name is pronounced “ie-O-nee” and is of Greek origin, meaning “violet flower”. May and Lisia chose this name just since they thought it was pretty and sounded nice with Levi and Evan’s names, but it ends up being fitting for their daughter as she has her grandmother Caroline’s purple eyes.
  • Her Japanese name is Sumire (菫玲), with the kanji for “violet flower” and “sound of jewels”. The second kanji is meant to have a slight relation to “earth”, as Levi’s Japanese name relates to the sea and Evan’s to the sky.
  • Ione has loved cute things and being the center of attention from a young age, in no small part because her mothers spoil her rotten. She loved the idea of contests, but always wanted to take the stage alongside her pokémon, so when she first heard about Showcases she knew exactly what she wanted to do when she set out on her journey. She’s got a rather princess-like attitude, so she definitely is going to be the center of drama in the Kalos Showcase scene, haha.
  • Her starter is a Sableye! I’m not sure yet how they first met, but I thought Sableye would be the perfect fit for Ione considering it kind of matches her name (purple and jewels), and I thought it would be fun for a pink-loving ultra-girly-girl like Ione to have a pokémon who’s a bit on a the creepier side. I can see Ione’s Sableye being similar to her in personality, very particular about her looks, a little on the prissy side, and always making sure her collection of jewels are in top condition (and ready to eat when she’s hungry.)  So the two definitely make a formidable (and overwhelming team.)
