10 Facts About Anise von Schwan
- She was a surprise. Prior to Korrina becoming pregnant with her, she and Chili had had a more casual relationship, closer to “rivals with benefits” than anything. But, once they had a baby on the way, they decided to try and be a more proper couple for their baby’s sake. Chili and Korrina basically have a shotgun wedding before Anise is born, much to the amusement of Cilan and Cress and the exasperation of Siebold. It was a whirlwind romance but they’re still happily married to this day. Anise likes to brag about how she helped her parents “get a move on and get married already”.
- When she was a child, Anise got some teasing about being fairly short for her age (though she grew to be slightly above average height later on), so in order to “fight the haters” developed an aggressive personality, literally jumping on other kids who made fun of her for any reason.
- Anise first discovered roller derby at school. Her gym class had a roller skating unit and when her gym teacher saw how enthusiastic and… aggressive she was about skating, she recommended Anise look into roller derby. Anise had learned to skate from Korrina and enjoyed it, but a contact sport for roller blading?! This is the perfect sport for her.
- Rather than pick her starter in Kalos, Anise instead met her starter, Tepig, while on a trip to Unova. Her family ran into Professor Juniper unexpectedly while visiting other former Plasma members in Driftveil. Aurea was in the city since some starting trainers wanted to pick one of the classic Unova starters, but in the face of a very enthusiastic teen making her decision, the timid Tepig ended up running away, straight into Anise who was wandering around the city. It was love at first sight and Anise ended up taking Tepig home with her (the other newbie trainer found her own partner, don’t worry!)
- Anise loves spicy food and will put hot sauce on almost anything she eats. She’s actually started carrying a couple small bottles of hot sauce in her bag to bring out during mealtimes.
- Anise argues a lot with her older brother, Ginger, but at the same time he’s also her partner in crime, doing all sorts of dangerous things with her that their parents (well, more Korrina than Chili) might frown upon. A favorite game is Ginger, who is very tall, picking up Anise by her legs and swinging her around in circles until they both get dizzy and fall over.
- Anise initially travels on her journey with Cassia, who decided to start her adventure in Kalos since she liked the region after going there on vacation and wanted to travel somewhere different than her usual haunts of Sinnoh and Johto. After they part ways, however, Anise decides to travel in Unova, wanting her starter to see the region she was born in, while Cassia wants to go back to Sinnoh to further her studies in her Junior Research program. Thus, Anise decides to travel with family friend Cyril, who is three years younger and also wanted to head to Unova after travelling through Kalos. It’s during these travels that she meets Aster, her eventual boyfriend.
- When Cyril goes missing in Unova, Anise stays in the region, teaming up with her brother to try and find out what happened to him, however when this doesn’t come to anything, she ends up going back home and returning to her derby team. When Cyril finally is found and brought home years later, Anise makes sure to visit him and keep him company since he’s not up to leaving the house as much.
- Anise is the reason Verbena wears pigtails. She was determined to match with her cousin and would do Verbena’s hair every time they saw each other to the point Verbena just wears that hairstyle as default now.
- One of Anise’s dreams is to open up the Striation Gym again alongside her cousins Verbena and Rosemary. She bothers the two of them constantly about working on their plans, but she’s determined that the three of them can make their dream a reality.

I wasn’t sure which ship meme you wanted so I’ll just do both (eventually). Here’s the sleeping one.
- Who is a night owl: Chili. He requires like 4 hours of sleep (and three cups of coffee in the morning) to function and usually stays up late working on projects for the Gym. Korrina, who works long hours as an Elite Four member, wants her husband to just come to bed already.
- Who is a morning person: Also Chili. He pings awake at 6 am sharp everyday and is ready to go. Korrina needs at least half an hour to wake up and is often irritated by how chipper her husband is in the morning.
- Are they cuddlers: Yes. These two are very physically affectionate, and that includes in bed. They usually sleep spooning or face to face and entwined.
- Who is the big spoon and who is the little spoon: They alternate, but it’s usually Chili just since he’s taller. He’s not taller by much though, so Korrina often is the big spoon as well. At the same time, she finds it cute how he clings on to her like a monkey so she lets him be the big spoon most of the time.
- What is their favourite sleeping position: As mentioned above, spooning or facing each other. As long as there’s physical contact they’re happy.
- Who steals all the blankets: Even though neither of them are particular blanket hogs or active sleepers, somehow, the blankets almost always end up on the floor by morning.
- What they wear to bed: Chili usually wears sweatpants and a tank-top or t-shirt, and Korrina usually wears the same but with shorts instead of sweats.
- Who likes seeing the other wearing their t-shirt: Korrina likes her husband in tank-tops since they show off his toned arms, but Chili is the one who thinks Korrina wearing his t-shirts to bed is the cutest.
- Who falls asleep mid-conversation: Korrina. She’s usually very tired by the time she’s ready to sleep so might just conk out mid-sentence. Chili is pretty good at regulating when he falls asleep so he always finds it hilarious when his wife does this.
- Who wakes up in the middle of the night with nightmares: Chili, simply because he’s had the more traumatic past. He doesn’t make a lot of noise when a nightmare wakes him up though, just opens his eyes and is awake. He doesn’t like to wake up Korrina when this happens since she needs her sleep, so if he can’t fall back asleep he’ll quietly get out of bed and go exercise or work on paperwork for the Gym, either until morning if it’s not far from the time he usually wakes up, or for an hour or so and then he tries to go back to sleep.
- Who accidentally punched the other in their sleep: Korrina. She has rollerblading dreams. Chili is the actual combat-trained one of the couple, but he’s also trained to not move in his sleep, so it’s usually him getting kicked in the shin by his wife while she’s dreaming of doing some rollerblading trick.
- Who can’t keep their hands to themself: Neither of them are particularly clingy in their sleep, but they both like to fall asleep in each other’s arms, if that counts. Otherwise, they usually stay in the same position, barring Korrina fidgeting or punching her husband in the eye or something.

It’s Shipping Saturday! Today I’ll share a bit on how the Striation Triplets met their significant others, since I have all of them in rarepairs.
Note: In this universe, the triplets were also the Shadow Triad, so that has a big impact on their characterization.
First up, Cress and Jasmine.
He had met her while she was visiting Kalos for a convention on botany (she was studying herbal medicine at the time, and Cress was there for cooking reasons) and they ended up befriending each other. They stayed in touch after Jasmine returned home, and Cress decided to visit her after a while. While in Johto, he ended up just sort of falling in love with the region and this was around the time he started to fall for Jasmine, not that he realized it at the time. While there, he also became aware of a culinary school in Johto that looked like it would really cater to his own interests in cooking. Cress is the brother who probably loves cooking the most and this just seemed like the perfect opportunity to pursue the professional chef career he had been dreaming of for a while. His brothers convinced him to go to culinary school in Kalos rather than Johto, but Jasmine surprised him by doing a sort of ‘semester abroad’ in Kalos to spend time with him, which was when they started dating. After he finished culinary school was when Cress started seriously considering moving to Johto. Jasmine had her Gym to attend to and he was still interested in the cuisine of Johto and learning more there. It took a lot of convincing and compromising, but he did eventually make the move and was married to Jasmine a few years later. Currently, he’s known as the ‘Ninja Sushi Chef’ of Olivine.
Next, Cilan and Clemont.
For them it was a situation of just running into each other a lot! The brothers were living in Lumiose while trying to settle down and find a way to integrate into society better, and were all working at the same restaurant at this time. Clemont tended to go there pretty often for lunch since it was close to his Gym, which is how he and Cilan started to get to know each other. Being the ‘information specialist’ of the trio, Cilan had a number of shared interests as Clemont in electronics and the like, so they had that as a starting point for their conversations. Clemont was interested how someone with obvious skill in programming and electronics (and who spoke Kalosian with a Unovan accent) ended up working in a cafe and Cilan sort of …. danced around the question. Clemont offered to give Cilan access to his labs and maybe work on some projects together since he needed a fresh pair of eyes to go over some of his more difficult projects. Cilan was actually really surprised that Clemont was willing to trust him with his work so easily which definitely endeared him to him. After that well, the rest is history. They end up dating after so much time spent together.
Finally, Chili and Korrina. While his brothers pursued their cooking skills, Chili focused on being a trainer. He really missed being a Gym Leader and wanted to find a job where he could battle and train with his team. His search led him to Shalour, where he decided to study a bit about Mega Evolution, something that greatly interested him. In particular, he wanted to try and see if he could achieve Mega Evolution with his Absol, his first pokémon who he hadn’t had a chance to use much at all in his Gym Leader days. It was during his time training in Shalour that he first met Korrina and the two at first clashed pretty frequently. Korrina didn’t like Chili’s motivations for training in Mega Evolution, that is, in her words ‘just to see if he could’ and Chili didn’t like how Korrina didn’t understand how important Mega Evolution would be for his bond with Absol. It took a lot of time, but eventually the two of them began to see eye-to-eye and from there their friendship developed into romantic feelings. Chili began working in Korrina’s Gym, eventually taking it over when his (by that point) wife became and Elite Four member.
