Hymnia: 27, 31, 32

27. If your character was going to get arrested, what would be the most likely reason for it?
Hymnia has done many things worthy of arrest, so ultimately the most likely reason for her being actually arrested would be getting caught. She’s very good at covering her tracks, so the most likely scenario is someone selling her out. She has plenty of enemies and while she tries to ensure none of them ever rat her out, ultimately she can’t predict everything someone might do, no matter how confident she may be in her ability to read people. She’s committed many crimes, from just associating with criminals to being an accessory to murder, so if she’s caught she’s probably not going to get off easily. Luckily, she has friends/contacts in high places in Unovan organized crime, so she’s fairly confident that she’ll never get arrested, or even if she is she’ll be able to get off easier through bribes and help from her allies.

31. Would your character be the kind capable of killing? Would they enjoy killing or only use it when necessary or, perhaps, refuse to kill no matter what?
Hymnia has never actually killed anyone herself, but she’s been involved in organizing and assisting murders a few times, mostly of other criminals. If it comes down to it, she would have no issue killing someone, but in her own special Hymnia way, she sees murder as a ‘last resort’ to solving a problem. It’s the easy way out for her, so to speak. As such, she wouldn’t enjoy killing since having to resort to that means that some other aspect of her plans fell through. She wouldn’t really feel remorse, but she’d be annoyed that things came to down to murder. She doesn’t care if other people murder though. In fact, when she and Darcel first ‘elope’ they form a criminal duo where Darcel will set up a difficult crime and frame a suspect, then Hymnia would offer her detective services to the victim (or their family/friends) and/or police to help solve it. As she loves solving mysteries, her boyfriend would keep the specifics of the crime secret from her and act as her ‘partner’ in the investigations. Obviously, some of these crimes included murder, but as long as there was an interesting and challenging mystery to solve, Hymnia couldn’t care less that her partner was the one responsible. Not the most typical bonding activity for a couple but… what else can we expect from these two?

32. If your character’s lover offered to take them out on a dream date, what would they want to do?
When they aren’t flirting at crime scenes they’re responsible for, Hymnia and Darcel like going on more ‘normal dates’, or at least what they perceive to be a ‘normal date.’ For Hymnia, a favorite date night would be dressing up and going to see a play (tragedies are a favorite). Beforehand, they’d go to a fancy restaurant and enjoy a romantic dinner for two (and people watch a bit). Hymnia loves playing the role of glamorous socialite so this would all be terribly fun for her. For the play, they’d get a box so they could whisper to each other and make snide comments about the performance and the other people there the whole time. It’s all very indulgent and luxurious, but Hymnia likes being a ‘normal couple out on a date night’ once and a while, the idea of having a double life thrilling and exciting. Of course, once they get home… there’s plenty of more fun to be had. (They’re a very active and experimental couple. They both hate boredom and that extends to bedroom … or anywhere else they can sneak away to when the mood strikes.)

7, 8 and 21 for Hymnia!

07. Is there a catchphrase or sound that they tend to make a lot (likely without being aware of it)?

Not really a catchphrase but Hymnia tends to comment on how ‘obvious’ or ‘easy’ things are in a fairly smug way. She likes to flaunt her intelligence then play innocent when she’s called out on being stuck up. “I thought I was merely pointing out the obvious. Don’t fault me for being right.” As for sounds, she tends to scoff a lot at things she finds tiresome or irritating. She’ll also make derisive noises when people do something ‘unintelligent or uninspired.’ She sort of tries to hide it when she laughs at others’ expense but… not too hard.

08. What is, perhaps, their biggest flaw? Are they aware of this or oblivious to it?
Hymnia is… not a good person. She has many flaws and very few morals, but her biggest flaw is probably her ego. She sees herself as above others and generally superior and usually right. She’ll acknowledge that she’s wrong if sufficient evidence is provided, but generally she assumes her opinion and perception is the correct one. She also can overestimate herself and end up in over her head. Hymnia is very aware of this flaw, but rather than try and correct what she considers an integral of her personality she simply works around it, preparing for bad situations. It’s not like she cares much what other people think of her anyways.

21. What is one of your character’s biggest fears? How would they react when dealing with this fear?
While Hymnia doesn’t care about what others think of her in general, she does care about her reputation because it’s so useful for her. As a detective, people assume she’s a helpful and trustworthy person and she’s able to have so many wonderful opportunities as a result. She also values her family’s view of her. She’s close with them and wouldn’t like it at all if something happened to them or her relationship with them. As such, one of her biggest fears is being ‘exposed’ and losing her carefully built reputation. Hymnia knows she’s done bad things and is what would be considered a ‘bad guy’, but she’s determined to keep that side of her separate from her family and work reputation. As such, she’s very susceptible to threats about exposing any of her criminal activity. She covers her tracks meticulously and won’t tolerate anyone interfering with her family or even some of her less criminally-inclined friends (as much as Hymnia has non-criminal friends.)

🖊+ Bertram 👀

Some random Bertie facts:

  • He’s the older twin between him and Maela.
  • He seems rather soft and sensitive on first glance but he’s actually very resilient and adaptable and has a wicked sarcastic streak.
  • He’s fussy about his looks.
  • He first met his boyfriend Lunen (Roxie’s son) when he was in Nimbasa due to his sister Sunna having a concert there. Maela wanted to go and dragged Bertie along with her. Lunen and Bertie then bonded over both not being very interested in rock music but being there to support their sisters who were.
  • He pierced his ears in a high school friend’s kitchen on a dare. He still regularly wears earrings.
  • After he and Poppy were kidnapped he ended up being the ‘leader’ of the trio since he had the most level head under stress. Not to mention he’s just fussy over others in general.
  • He got pregnant almost immediately so the twins end up being born in November of 3640 and are about 15 months old when the trio are rescued. (They have no memory of their birthplace though.)
  • Lunen immediately stepped up to being a father for the twins and while they were a bit wary of him at first (Aurel especially), they come to adore him pretty quickly.
  • Bertie has dreams of studying biology and doing field research. These goals were put on hold for a bit due to his captivity and becoming a father, but he’s been taking online and night classes and plans to pursue his dream once they’re older.
  • He kind of weirdly gets a long really well with his first cousin once removed Hymnia. Perhaps she likes him since he has such a surprisingly blunt side.
  • He looks a lot like Hilbert but has Albin’s blond hair and blue eyes. He’s quite good looking and knows it. He likes to joke that he’s a ‘sexy househusband’ since he’s currently studying from home.

pkmnomegaverse: Darcel with @moenecropyromancer‘s Hymnia, cause we’ve discussed how these two would get on, and let me tell, you, this ship is legit.  The easiest way for them both to get what they want, deep down, in the end.

What would happened if Grimsley did gave Hymnia to fulfill the bet?

Nothing good that’s for sure.

However, it would have been nearly impossible for things to get to that point. Grimsley’s sister, Diana, was already very suspicious of her brother’s motives. Despite saying that he was going to be giving his baby up for adoption, he was cagey about the exact details of what agency he was working with and about the situation in general. If he hadn’t come to her first asking for help, Diana would have pressed her brother for information until he spilled. In this case, things would just progress roughly the same way they do in ‘canon’, with Grimsley going to Alola for about a year to help get his life in order while Hymnia is raised by her aunt and mother.

In the very slight chance that Grimsley did manage to give her away he would very likely regret his actions enough to ask for help then. Champion Iris would likely get involved and, as in ‘canon’, the criminal ring would have been apprehended and Hymnia would have been tracked down and rescued. In this scenario, it’s possible that Grimsley might not ever get full custody of her, in which case Hymnia would be raised by Shauntal, or at least her father would have taken more time to help himself than the year he does in ‘canon.’

If somehow all of these scenarios didn’t happen and Hymnia was permanently sold off to fulfill her father’s bet however, then she likely would have suffered a terrible fate. Many people want to use mages for nefarious ends and, as a baby essentially sold on the black market, she could have ended up dead, raised to a be tool and used for her powers, or any other number of grim fates. In all likelihood however, this wouldn’t have happened. There are too many factors that prevented Grimsley from giving her up, from his own conscience to the interference of his family, so in the end anything that could have happened to her is just speculation. It’s something Hymnia thinks about on occasion, but since she avoided that fate she tends not to dwell on it.

Gacha Life Adventures Part 2
The Detective Trio aka the Sherlock Holmes Expy Crew.
The direct rivals and ‘counterparts’ of the Crime Trio, the Detective Trio solve mysteries using mostly more aboveground methods, erring on the side of the law moreso than using any means necessary (though this is debatable for Hymnia.)

Hymnia Montfort (RolandShipping). Aka ‘Sherlock’. She’s the only one of these six who has a profile so I don’t have much to add here. I’m sad I couldn’t do her hair spikes justice in the app.

Penelope Tracy-Cooke (MakeOrBreakShipping). Aka ‘Watson’. She acts as Hymnia’s common sense. A medical student who is currently getting some field experience patching up her two friends who seem to attract dangerous situations. Levelheaded and calm, Penelope is able to analyze a situation and find the best course of action in seconds. And not only is she the most sensible of the Detective Trio, she’s also the best cook of the three (amusingly, given her name.)

Nanala Yukimori (MeowthShipping). Aka ‘Lestrade’. The actual law enforcement of the trio, Nanala is an eager young Interpol agent who isn’t afraid to bend the rules to solve a case. While she’s a skilled agent, she also has a tendency to be overeager and jump to conclusions. Hymnia will deride her theories as ‘silly’ and ‘conspiratorial’, but Nanala is firm in helping out with their investigations using Interpol resources whenever she can.

Hymnia?

10 Facts About Hymnia Montfort

  1. She was conceived during an extremely low period in Grimsley’s life where he had gotten involved with illegal gambling rings and criminals and was just barely toeing the line between his E4 job and his more dangerous hobbies, often falling into debt and in general in both a bad place mentally and in situation. During a particularly intense poker game with a criminal organization, Grimsley, with nothing left to bet, wagered his firstborn child. He lost. Hymnia was conceived to fulfill that bet (Grimsley was already kind of hooking up with Shauntal on the side so he had a mother in mind for his wagered baby, not to mention mages tend to be more valuable on the black market so he was hoping to pay off more of his debt than originally planned by giving the criminals a more valuable baby.) However, during the pregnancy, he realized that he’d made a horrible decision and sought help from his family. In the end, Champion Iris became involved and while the situation was sorted out and the offending parties apprehended, following Hymnia’s birth, Grimsley quietly retired from his E4 position and took a much needed vacation in Alola, leaving his daughter with his sister Diana.
  2. Hymnia’s parents were married when she was about three years old, and her younger brothers were born about a year later. She is generally nonchalant about her unconventional origins and gets annoyed when people question her family life based on gossip.
  3. She takes very strongly after her grandmother, Calliope, who was one of the first members of Unova’s Elite Four back when the region had first joined the Pokémon League. Her hair has a straighter texture like Shauntal’s however (aside from her ‘spikes’ that are on the side of her head).
  4. Her starter, like all members of the Montfort family, was a Deino given to her when she was very young by her father. She named her Deino Astor, which then later causes a bit of confusion when her first cousin once-removed is born a few years later and is named Aster. Hymnia doesn’t see the issue though, since the two names are spelled differently.
  5. Hymnia is very logical and extremely intelligent, skilled at problem solving and observations. However, she’s also not very good at socializing, being especially bad at holding a coherent conversation as she tends to just jump to the topics she finds most important rather than wait for the other person to try and catch up to her train of thought. Talking to her is often like listening to someone brainstorm out loud rather than having a conversation.
  6. Grimsley taught Hymnia some basic card games when she was young and now cards are one of her favorite hobbies. As a sort of … private detective/information specialist/PI type of person, she finds card games and gambling are a wonderful way to loosen tongues and make quick friends (or enemies, but that’s the thrill of games of chance after all). One of her preferred ways of gathering information from stubborn targets is by making a bet. She often wins since she’s observant enough to purposefully set the terms in her favor, even if the other person doesn’t realize this.
  7. Hymnia can be a bit of an adrenaline junkie, often taking the high-risk high-reward route rather than the safer but less promising one. She generally assumes that she’ll be able to think her way out of any trouble she gets into, but her overconfidence has landed her in sticky situations more than once. Luckily, she has her sidekick Penelope to help her out whenever things go south.
  8. Being the descendant of a more mischief-inclined sort of fae on her mother’s side, Hymnia’s magic has a strong focus on illusions and trickery, something she finds very useful in her work as it comes in handy for disguises, gathering information, and being stealthy when the need arises.
  9. She specializes in dark-type pokémon like her father. She considers dark-types to be the most ‘useful’ kind of pokémon, being both clever and sneaky (much like herself). Aside from Astor, I know she has an Absol, though the rest of her team is still under construction.
  10. One of her main rivals is Cicely, Cress’ daughter (raised by her other father) who is deeply involved with the Castelia mob. Having a teasing personality, Cicely often likes to provoke Hymnia then cover her tracks, usually infuriating the younger woman. At the same time, Hymnia loves the the thrill of the chase and finds her ‘games of cat and mouse’ with Cicely to be some of her most enjoyable cases. Penelope is just tired of all the shenanigans her friend and sort-of-boss gets up to and wishes they could go back to straightforward and more importantly safe jobs from now on, pretty please?
