Tell me more about magical girl Luna >:3c

@sydchan asked me about Luna as well so this will cover both asks!

10 Facts About Luna Hiwada

  1. Her favorite color is orange and she will try to incorporate it into all of her outfits. She prefers more muted shades of orange, though she isn’t opposed to bright orange in moderation.
  2. Her favorite season is fall, mostly because of the food. Sweet potatoes are her favorite so getting to eat them freshly cooked during a cold fall day is a special treat.
  3. Due to being the descendant of a kodama (a tree spirit) her magical powers are mostly plant-based. Her ancestor was a spirit who inhabited the Ilex Forest, so she often goes there to find plants and herbs for her medicine and spells.
  4. She adores traditional fashion, which is how she first met Nerissa. Luna was attending one of Valerie’s fashion shows in Goldenrod when she happened to meet the designer’s daughter and the two hit it off right away, becoming penpals and later long-distance girlfriends.
  5.  Luna chose to move to Celadon to be with Nerissa rather than the other way around, mainly because she wanted to spread her herbal medicine to a wider audience than the fairly small Azalea that she grew up in. When she first arrives she’s very much the ‘confused country girl in the big city.’
  6. Due to an increase in hostile supernatural beings as a result of an as-yet-unnamed evil team (not Team Mythic) the patron deity of Celadon, Kiriniji, recruits Nerissa and Luna as her champions. This is just a fancy way of saying they’re magical girls.
  7. The powers given to her by Kiriniji mostly enhance Luna’s latent magic, giving her increased control over plants and living energy, along with a sweet transformation sequence and a cute foliage-based dress.
  8. Though her magic is plant-oriented, Luna is a bug-type specialist like her fathers, training butterfly and moth pokémon specifically. This is also incorporated into her magical girl outfit as well in the form of a large ribbon that resembles luna moth wings (Luna’s namesake in fact) and hair accessories that resemble antenna.
  9. Luna is closer with Bugsy than she is with Aaron, but that’s mainly due to her interest in the lore and traditions surrounding her home. Bugsy is able to pass on what he learned about the forest from his parents, while it’s a bit harder for Aaron to connect with his daughter on that level due to being a foreigner. All the same, they bond over different things, especially pokémon battling and training bug-types as Luna actually loves being a competitive trainer, something Bugsy was never as excited about despite being a Gym Leader. So essentially, she bonds with one of her dads over a shared love of studying nature and the other over a shared love of pokémon battles.
  10. While she’s living in Kanto right now and fighting evil, Luna’s ultimate dream is to take over the Azalea Gym from her father and show the world just how strong and lovely her moth and butterfly pokémon are.

In a Disney movie AU, what fankids would be which couples? (Like, who would be Aladdin and Jasmine, Ariel and Eric, Rapunzel and Eugene, etc.)

Oh gosh this might be a bit tough, but I’ll do my best!

Well… to start out, while not fankids, the OC/Legendary parent ships of Yves/Alexandrine and Yulia/Evgeny both draw intentional influence from Tangled. Yves has some Rapunzel elements in that he’s a long-lost prince on a quest to return to his kingdom without knowing his true identity. Evgeny was intentionally designed to be a bit of a Eugene expy, from his (former) occupation as a thief, to his romance with a princess, and just his name.

As for fankids though:
Sage & Celeste would make a fine Robin Hood & Maid Marian.
Luna & Nerissa would be cute as Snow White & Prince Ferdinand, or as Princess Aurora & Prince Philip.
Cypress & Apollon could work as Tarzan & Jane (in an AU where Cypress was raised by dragons until adulthood and not just until he was 8.)
Ceres & Callisto would make a pretty darn adorable Rapunzel & Eugene for the fankids (they could also work in some…. Russian version of the Aladdin story with Callisto as the titular hero and Ceres as the princess.)
Levi & Rhys are Ariel and Eric. They’ve probably dressed up as these characters before. They know what they’re about. Levi is the handsome merman and Rhys is his charming musical prince.
Draco & Addie could be an interesting Beast/Prince Adam and Belle, since Draco’s character arc involves him confronting his anger issues and part of the reason he ends up dating and marrying Addie is the support she gave him during that difficult period of his life.
Yvon & Aurélie could be cute as Kristoff & Anna.
Mindy would make an excellent Meg, but Maddie doesn’t really fit Hercules that much.

Honestly, I think for a lot of these I just can’t quite pick a Disney couple that matches well in terms of dynamics and story elements with the various fankid ships, while I do actually have plenty of fankid ships that sound like they ought to be Disney couples (like Elias and Margot…. a shy prince and an outgoing, dragon-obsessed girl.) I’m also not familiar with too many Disney couples, having only seen most Disney movies once, and probably a long time ago to boot. I’m happy to hear others’ opinions on this matter though, or if you have a fankid ship you’d like to know more about.

KaguyaShipping

I added a new fankid ship recently, so I thought it would be nice to elaborate a bit on it. The ship is between Nerissa, the daughter of Erika and Valerie, and Luna, the daughter of Bugsy and Aaron. The two of them are both into traditional style and fashion and very much fit the ‘hime’ trope. Nerissa grew up wearing Valeries clothes and eventually became a professional model for them when she was older. She loves Wa Lolita fashion the most, favoring dresses that are both cute and have a traditional Kantonian flare to them. Towards the end of her teens, Nerissa also began designing her own clothing, and now has her own line of fashion and a small store in Celadon.

Luna embraces traditional culture in a different way. Rather than through fashion and etiquette like Nerissa, Luna is an avid herbalist. As a child, she loved exploring the Ilex Forest and Bugsy would point out all the different plants (and bugs) that lived there. Luna became interested in the medicinal use of plants when she watched the village elders make herbal medicine and began to learn the practice herself. Later on, she also began to experiment with making new types of medicine and vitamins, not only incorporating herbs, but also ingredients from her butterfly and moth pokémon companions.

The two first met in Celadon, when Luna visited there for a convention on botany. She and Nerissa happened to cross paths and it was practically love at first sight. They spent the weekend of the convention together and after Luna returned home, she found herself wanting to return to Kanto as soon as possible to see Nerissa again. They kept up email correspondence (and wrote letters as well, after Nerissa got Luna hooked on her hobby of collecting cute stationary). Eventually, after quite a bit of convincing her fathers (she was expected to be the next Gym Leader after Bugsy retired after all), Luna made the move to Kanto to live with Nerissa. She opened up the first major herb shop in Kanto right next to Nerissa’s boutique and the two are happily dating.

Their ship name comes from the name of the lunar princess from the Japanese folktale, the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. I chose it since it fits their shared traditional, princess-like aesthetic (the two are even known as the Princesses of Kanto by fans) as well as Luna’s name. The two are a very sweet couple and are a nice break from all the angsty stuff I’ve been posting recently.
