How do Lisia/May, Tory/Max, and their families interact?

(This has also been sitting in my ask box for way too long but yesterday’s ep gave me the dosage of Lisia I needed to motivate me)

May and Max remain fairly close as adults! They both still live in Hoenn, though in different cities. May lives in Sootopolis, but travels a lot for her work as a Frontier Brain, spending a lot of time at the Battle Frontier while Lisia remains closer to home as the Sootopolis Gym Leader. Max took over the Petalburg Gym from Norman and was the Leader there for a while, but later moves to Mauville with Tory, giving the Petalburg Gym to one of his top assistants and becoming Tory’s right hand at the Mauville Gym. He and Tory are also (part-time) Researchers! They mainly use the high-tech available to them in Mauville (and thanks to Tory’s expertise) to collaborate with Brendan and the other scientists in Mossdeep.

As for the various relationships, they also all get along pretty well!
Lisia – Max: Lisia easily comes to consider Max as her little brother as well, but Max finds her (and her fanbase) a bit overwhelming, especially back when they first met during his and May’s initial journey through Hoenn with Ash and Brock. While he prefers to spend time with her in smaller doses, Max respects Lisia as a trainer and Gym Leader, and enjoys discussing that with her as it’s their main common point (apart from May). Lisia on the other hand would rather take her baby brother shopping or out to a cute cafe then talk about work! She has definitely invited him over for training only to turn it into a trip into town instead. Max will complain, but he does enjoy spending time with her! They’re a lot closer than he lets on.

Lisia – Tory: Similarly to Max, Lisia easily thinks of Tory as a younger sibling and the two actually get along a lot more “obviously” than she and Max do. When he first started his journey, Tory tried out quite a few different paths, including coordinating. Lisia was someone he admired for her confidence and ability to bring a smile to others, so they had a lot to bond over from the start! He does enjoy going out to cafes with her and they regularly meet up, both to catch up as friends and as Gym Leaders.

May – Tory: They’re very close! Having known him, essentially, for as long as Max has, May was very pleased when she found out he and her brother were a couple (which is why Max tried to keep her from finding out for as long as possible). When Tory first started trying out contests, he was hesitant to reach out to May for advice, but the moment she found out he was interested in them she took him under her wing. It was actually thanks to May becoming his mentor that Tory reunited with Max and grew close with him. They remain very good friends and Tory still views May as a mentor, often visiting the Battle Stage to train with her. In turn, May also considers Tory an inspiration as he’s grown and come into his own as a trainer, adopting his own unique style she can learn from.

The Cousins: Levi’s quite a bit older than Trixie and Nils, so he’s not as close with them growing up. Later on, however, Nils ends up coming to him for advice quite a bit once he begins exploring different paths for his future. Nils becomes interested in fashion, eventually becoming a PokeStylist. While Ione is also in coordinating/performing world, being the same age as Nils she doesn’t have quite the same experience as her older brother. Nils goes on to design quite a few outfits for Ione (and Henry) once they’re teenagers and rising stars in the performing/coordinating/fashion world.

Trixie and Evan realllly don’t get along that well, both being very stubborn, aggressive, and direct/blunt. While she’s only a couple years younger, Evan sees Trixie as just a little kid who’s just trying to ride his coattails, while Trixie sees Evan as a pompous, rude [expletive] who thinks he’s hot stuff just since he got lucky and did well as a rookie. They’re not each other’s primary rivals, but they definitely are rivals.

Trixie has a mixed relationship with Ione. On the one hand, she doesn’t like how Ione used to tease her baby brother, but on the other hand she’s also (totally not that much!!!) afraid of Ione’s affinity for ghosts and ghost-types. They’re one of her weak spots, so while Ione doesn’t go out of her way to bother Trixie or anything, nonetheless Trixie is wary of her. The fact that Nils is nonplussed by the ghosts and teasing and even grows to love designing spooky themed outfits for Ione, Henry and their pokemon… she doesn’t get it. He’s stronger than her.

sydchan: Lisia Fankid Project I wanted to try drawing Lisia with all the fankids (on tumblr) that people have made for her.  The layout is based on the Serena fankid pic Lexie did since I really liked the idea, especially in how it let me … Continue reading

Any headcanons for Yellow/Leaf, Lisia/May, and Winona/Kris?

Yellow/Leaf

  • They’ve known each other since childhood, as Yellow is an old friend of Red and Green’s, and Red is Leaf’s older brother. However, they were never super close as children due to their age difference and having their own friend groups.
  • They reconnect later on after Leaf joins Team Rocket and begins investigating Mewtwo around the same era as the Gen 2 games. Yellow was also investigating Mewtwo on her own, so the two met by chance and decided to work together. I’m still fleshing out how their investigation goes, but the endgame is that they become close friends and are able to befriend Mewtwo.
  • They end up pursuing their own paths – Yellow goes to school to study to become a Pokémon Doctor, while Leaf starts working for Green at the Viridian Gym. The whole time they’re supporting each other’s different goals though!
  • At some point, they start dating and eventually move in together once Yellow graduates and Leaf inherits the Gym from Green (who retired to become a Professor). The two buy a house in Viridian, near the forest, that Yellow also runs a small clinic out of.
  • Their daughter and only child, Amaryllis, was a surprise and was born before they got married, though they got engaged after discovering Yellow was pregnant. They were also surprised when she was born with bright red hair, though this made Leaf very happy as it’s her mother’s hair color.
  • In the fankid era, Leaf continues to be the Viridian Gym Leader, while Yellow runs the clinic, focusing on taking care of the various wild pokémon who might get injured. Amaryllis is a fairy-type trainer with aspirations of becoming a Gym Leader herself.

Lisia/May

  • My OTP so I have a lot for this ship.
  • They’re a couple who gets together quite quickly! They start dating sometime in the post game of ORAS, probably after the Delta Episode, which is when May decided to try out being a coordinator after spending so long being a trainer.
  • Their relationship is pretty similar to what plays out in the game, with Lisia taking on a mentor, and eventual rival role to May and encouraging her before and after each contest win, the two growing closer the entire time. I think romantic feelings develop for Lisia first, but she’s hesitant to confess since she’s afraid May doesn’t feel the same, but May for sure caught feelings pretty soon as well, not saying anything since she thought Lisia was totally out of her league.
  • Eventually, right before the two are ready to compete in the Hoenn Grand Festival that year (I used the anime set up for contests in this verse!), the two both decide it’s the time to confess before they face off against each other in the competition. As they both had the same idea, they ended up confessing at the same time! It all worked out though, since knowing that no matter what, they had each other now and a whole future as girlfriends to look forward to, it didn’t matter who won or lost in the Grand Festival. (As it turns out, neither won, the spot going to Robert as it did in the anime.)
  • Drew was also there, yes, and he and May had a rivalry like they did in the anime! In this case, it just never became romantic, though of course the two remain very close friends throughout the fankid era. He may or may not have given May some advice and the final push to work up the courage to confess to Lisia. (May returns the favor by bothering him about Harley later on.)
  • May continued to pursue coordinating for a while, though her endgame career is as a Frontier Brain, replacing Spenser. Her facility is called the Battle Stage and functions like an enhanced version of the battle portion of contests (which is where she got the name from), where challengers have to show off both their battling skills and how in sync they are with their pokémon’s moves and performance. Her title as a Frontier Brain is “Stage Princess May”.
  • Lisia ends up taking over the Sootopolis Gym from her uncle Wallace when he becomes Champion, having been inspired by May’s success as a trainer. She specializes in Dragon-types (her babies) and is a formidable opponent for any gym challenger, often the last gym leader challenged in the league due to Sootopolis’s location.
  • The couple live in Sootopolis with their three children, Levi, Evan, and Ione. Levi is a coordinator and aspiring contest idol, taking after Lisia, Evan is a trainer who wants to become the Petalburg Gym Leader one day like his uncle and grandfather, and Ione is an aspiring performer who starts her journey in Kalos. There was a bit of drama with Evan since Brendan and Wally had already mentioned they liked Eve as a girl’s name for their soon-to-be born child, and Evan is awfully close to Eve. May swears it was a coincidence but there was a bit of tension for a while (that luckily gets cleared up pretty quickly.)

Kris/Winona

  • Less to say here since they’re less developed.
  • It was actually kind of an arranged marriage. Kris’s family and Winona’s family are both old and traditional and have ties going way back. The elders from both families decided it was time to have the clans join in marriage, something they do fairly regularly every so often and began discussions with clan members.
  • Initially the pairing suggested was Clair and Winona, but Clair wanted nothing to do with marriage so the elders approached her younger sister, Kris with the idea instead. Kris actually saw it as an opportunity for adventure and figured that since it was kind of a political match, she could still find love elsewhere if she and Winona didn’t click. Hoenn seemed like a fun place to live, so she agreed.
  • As such, they’re a couple who fall in love after marriage rather than before. They have Amethyst fairly soon after marriage since it was sort of expected of them and both were fine with having a kid, but Gale is born a fair bit later as he was the child they had after falling in love. Amethyst is a coordinator and Gale is a trainer and Evan’s rival.
  • The romance happened fairly slowly, but after living together for a while, both Kris and Winona found themselves thinking about each other a lot. Kris loved watching Winona work at the gym and how attentive she was to her pokémon (and formed a good bond with all of Winona’s flying-types as well!). Winona loved seeing how dedicated Kris was to her work as a researcher, her care in studying and looking after pokémon and the environment. Before either realized it, they were in love and it just felt right.
  • Winona continues to run the Fortree Gym, but she’s considering one of her children as a successor, if that’s what they want. Kris, already working for Professor Elm in Johto before moving to Hoenn to get married, simply started working for Professor Birch instead, and later works closely with Brendan once he takes up his father’s lab coat. She focuses on studying pokémon ecology in and around the Fortree area and how pokémon fit into the natural ecosystem, though she will also do the occasional study on pokémon in other habitats in Hoenn as well.

Who’s your favorite family from each region?

This is a pretty difficult question since for generally my “favorite” family is the one I’m working the most on at any given time, so the answer would change. I can answer for who I’m enjoying working on the most at this point in time though.

Kanto: I haven’t really worked in depth on any Kanto families recently, but I’d say right now I’m feeling very fond of the NamelessShipping fam. I’ve been having a lot of fun with Roy and Sage’s dynamic in particular, as antagonistic siblings is always fun. I also like how they both have some of Green’s arrogance, since cocky characters are fun to work with.

Johto: Hands down the HonorShipping family just since they have so much drama. A very close second is Whitney, Ethan, and Lance’s family, since there’s a lot of fun dynamics going on there as well. I think the sheer outrageous soap-opera levels of drama in the former family are what make me like it more though, as well as how quirky all the kids are.

Hoenn: Probably a tie between TensionShipping and ContestQueenShipping at the moment. ContestQueen will always be my forever Hoenn OTP, so they’re going to be a favorite no matter what, but I’ve been having so much fun with Drew and Harley’s family (and their dynamics with Lisia and May’s family) that I feel like they deserve a shoutout as well.

Sinnoh: The BrokenShipping family is a forever favorite just since it’s one of my weirdest ships. It was basically an in-universe crackship to start out and then the more I thought about it the more I thought it would be great. They’re an unconventional family but one I love working on. Shout-out/runner up goes to the ComaShipping family though since how could I not love Paul and Ash and their goth babies.

Unova: I know this is kind of cheating since it’s like five families but… the Montfort family. All of them. I don’t know how it got so big but all of them are so much fun to work with and I’ve just put some of my most effort into worldbuilding Unova that they’re kind of my babies. Even if some are trash babies like Grimsley and Hymnia and Mindy. And while this isn’t set in stone yet… there’s a good chance the family’s going to be expanding once I incorporate Galar 😉

Kalos: PerfectWorldShipping. Hands down. I have… trouble with Kalos, mainly due to lack of inspiration, so I think it’s probably no wonder that the couple/family with a convoluted story and angst and drama is the one I like best. Florian’s one of my older fankids as well and while he’s changed a bit over the years he’s still one I’m very fond of. I really like thinking of him and his dads being soft together.

Alola: Another region I find myself having a bit more trouble with, but I’d say maybe SnowLilyShipping? Mainly just since they start out very typical but end up being very unconventional with their half-alien meme son, sort-of a zombie son, and then adorable baby daughter. Another fun one is the NineIronShipping fam (Guzma/Molayne/Kahili) just since it’s full of shenanigans and all three kids are gremlins.

And then I have some other regions, but those only have one-two families each so I’ll exclude them. Honestly I think it’s just become obvious that the families I tend to enjoy working with are the ones with more drama/unconventional elements. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy the more typical families – I do immensely! It’s just that when it comes down to picking favorites, I tend to go with the ones like that. Really, this AU is more of a personal/self-indulgent project than anything, which is why things get over the top or dark sometimes. I simply want to explore lots of different ideas I find interesting and use this world as a way to do so.

More Random Mostly Minor Changes

Because apparently I have never met consistency in my life.

Lisia/May have another kid now, a daughter named Ione. Mostly this is because the more I thought about it, the more I realized those two would want more kids, especially a daughter. If Evan had been a girl they probably would have stopped with just two, but while they love both their sons they really wanted a daughter so decided on having another kid, rounding out the family with baby Ione.

Secondly, I had a moment where I all of a sudden wondered why I ever changed my original pairing of Georgia/Burgundy way back in the earlier days of this AU and decided to endgame them again. So Sieg and Bryn are now SourGrapes kids and Milo and Akia are now the kids of a single dad Ulu. I also changed a couple other Alola ships just since I wasn’t feeling Sophocles/Lana at all. So I now have Mallow/Lana and Kiawe/Soffy. I do like Mallow/Kiawe quite a bit but Mallow/Lana is just as good and I wanted to have ships I actually want to develop, especially in Alola, so sacrifices had to be made. The three kids all four had between them are still the same (Kiele, Victoria, Chrys), just shifted around a bit. I don’t think this will change their role in the story very much. Kiele and Victoria are still bffs with Primrose and all.

I think that’s about it for now!

Hoenn Changes

Recently, I’ve been slowly working through all my different families and fankids, especially those who have been around since the beginning, and seeing if there are any I want to change. My latest changes have all been in Hoenn and they’re fairly major! I’ll lay them out here so none of the changes I make on the blog regarding these updates will be too surprising.

  1. I love Solomon dearly, but I felt like he just didn’t properly fit in with May and Lisia’s family and that it was holding him back as a character since I struggled to come up with hcs for how he interacts with them. As a result, he’s been “moved” to Brawly/Roxanne’s family, replacing Rudy.
  2. Additionally, Safir’s name has also been changed and she is now known as Angelica. She’s still rivals with Layla and a mentor to Eria. Solomon’s story is pretty much exactly the same despite this change, so his dynamics with Tanith and Balthazar are the same!
  3. Since I can’t really picture Levi as an only child, he now has a new younger sibling since Solomon has been “moved”. This new brother has been tentatively named Evan and I’m still developing him!
  4. Drew’s children are now quite a bit different. He still has twins and is (basically) a single dad, but rather than identical boys, he now has a girl and boy named Lydia and Francis. Their other parent is Harley, but he and Drew are not in a committed relationship and have no desire to move in together or get married or anything. Harley does play a role in Lydia and Francis’s lives though and sees them regularly. Being Harley’s biological children heavily factors into the twins’ unfriendly rivalry with Brooke (Harley’s ward).
