2, 12, and 22 for Draco (for the ask meme thing?) ✨

2. Their emotional/moral weak spots

Draco’s biggest weak spot is that he isn’t as in control as he thinks he is. Draco likes to believe that he’s in full control of his emotions, dismissing any unwanted outbursts as aberrations. This leads to him not realizing how badly he can hurt others, because he thinks he’s being reasonable and normal for himself, while anyone else would see that he was acting emotionally and irrationally. Draco is actually very self-conscious, so he has a tendency to block out criticism in an effort to avoid taking a hit to his self-esteem. Essentially, he tries to cope with everything by retreating further inward to his own fantasy-perception of the world, which just amplifies the image of a callous, angry, jerk that many people see him as.

While he does hurt others’ feelings and breaks quite a few hearts, he still has a moral compass, of course, actually a quite strict one. Draco doesn’t tolerate injustice from others (which is quite ironic) and will go out of his way to stop a crime from happening if he sees it, not caring about what others might be doing to help. As a result, he can be quite reckless and put himself in danger. Draco has been more aware of these weak spots more recently, however, since he started therapy and has steps to avoid falling back into the same bad habits and destructive thought patterns as he used to.

12.  Grudges and vendettas

Draco can hold a mean grudge. His most significant one is against Ethan, his father. He resents Ethan for being a part of his life, yet never revealing his true relationship to his son, as if Draco couldn’t easily tell that Ethan was his father. He also has a tendency to concoct wild scenarios regarding Ethan’s relationship with Lance, most of them as full on scandalous soap opera as he can think up. He doesn’t like how, when Ethan found out that Draco knew their relationship, he tried to become a father figure to him. Part of this is that Draco is very close with Lance and sees Ethan as intruding on their father-son relationship, another part is that he hates that he was deceived, even if his parents thought it was for the best. Despite Ethan’s many efforts to try and make amends with Draco, he remains stubborn in being distant with his father.

Draco also holds somewhat of a grudge against his exes, for more of an irrational reason than his grudge against Ethan. A lot of the problems with Draco’s past relationships was a failure to communicate, mainly on his end. He would have been only interested in a casual, no-strings-attached, short term relationship, but would be oblivious to if his partner had more serious intentions. When Draco eventually decided to move on from the relationship, his partners were often upset that he didn’t share their feelings or communicate what he wanted from the relationship properly, and there were a lot of really bad fights and inevitable bad blood. While he can look back on his past relationships and see that he was at fault, Draco also holds somewhat of a grudge against his exes, especially the ones who now hate him. He sort of thinks that, since he’s been able to move past the breakup with minimal hard feelings, they should too. “Now that I’ve turned over a new leaf, can’t bygones be bygones?” This grudge is the main reason he doesn’t inform Cypress that he has a son, which later comes back to bite him in the ass.

22.

People who’ve influenced them greatly

Probably the most important person to Draco growing up was his father, Lance. As his only (to his knowledge) parent, Lance was the pillar of Draco’s world, his role-model, his inspiration, his protector. Draco’s sense of justice comes from Lance, as does his temper. The two are quite similar, in no small part due to their close relationship. Despite all his grudges and dislike for his home during his ‘Wild Years’, Draco never resents Lance. He understands why Lance is overprotective of him and indulges the man, even when he sends one of his Dragonite to check in on Draco when’s he travelling the world every once and a while. Draco knows he wouldn’t be the person he is without his father, and he will freely admit Lance is basically his hero.

The other major influence in Draco’s life was a briefer encounter. While he hated the lecture he got from Maia at the time, losing to her and hearing her opinion on his character was the first event that prompted him to reexamine his behavior and realize that he maybe needed to change his ways and/or get some help. It wasn’t immediate, but she put the thought in his head, which later helped him when he decided to return home and settle down. Draco later writes Maia a thank-you, and she actually flies out to Johto to see him in person and express how glad she is he’s doing better. Of course, she probably won’t ever be on friendly terms with Draco since he hurt her brother, but she respects him for making the effort to better himself, which is no small feat.

My bias is too strong, so Draco with 4, 9, 15, 16, 20?

4.

Best places to kiss on their body

Draco prefers to be the dominant one in relationships, so perhaps as a result he can be quite sensitive to others kissing him. His weak spot is the entire region from his jaw to his collarbone, so any kisses there tend to make him a bit weak in the knees. Addie likes to joke he must have secret fantasies about sleeping with a vampire considering how much he likes being kissed/bitten on the neck. Draco finds this ridiculous and actually starts wearing high-collared jackets and shirts once he realizes his weak spot, both to ‘protect’ it and cover up the inevitable marks he gets there. Aside from his neck, his second most sensitive kissing spot is his thighs, but he rarely lets anyone take advantage of that.

9. Humiliating memories

Though he likes to appear confident and put together, Draco is actually quite self-conscious, so he has a number of embarrassing (even if only to him) memories. One of them is when, during his first hookup with Florian, the other man completely turned the tables on him and ended up being the top. Draco was so flustered by the entire situation that he lost all composure and (in his opinion) made a fool of himself. He was embarrassed enough that he just left Florian with no word for a few weeks after that until Flor contacted him again. Then the fact that Draco agreed to hookup again was another embarrassment since he had been determined not to give in and do something humiliating again.

Another embarrassing memory is when he was in Hoenn and got into a fight with Maia about his treatment of her younger brother, Apollon. Draco was confident he could beat the older woman in a pokémon battle and made a big show of how he was going to crush her without breaking a sweat, but in the end he got utterly trounced by her, only managing to take down two of her pokémon before being defeated. The loss was so hard on him and so humiliating that he locked himself in his hotel room for a few days until Maia came by to give him some stern life advice, though that was embarrassing for Draco as well, since not only did he lose horribly to her, he also ended up getting lectured like a little kid.

15. What it takes to make them cry

Draco cries surprisingly easily, mostly when he’s frustrated or angry. He hates this trait and suppresses it whenever he can, often going off by himself if he feels the tears starting up. He hates anything that contradicts the ‘suave, aggressive, confident, bad boy’ persona he’s built up around himself, and that includes crying when he’s upset. When he’s around people he trusts though, like family, he’s a bit freer with his emotions, and Addie has found him in tears because he couldn’t open a jar before. She finds it rather endearing, that there’s a somewhat sensitive guy under all the rough exterior.

16. Dark secrets/’skeletons in the closet’

Draco has two big secrets, so to speak. The first is that he found out Ethan was his father when he was fairly young, but never told anyone he knew. Lance and Ethan wanted to keep Draco’s parentage a secret to avoid conflict, but Draco was able to figure out that his dad’s close friend who was always around and also looked a bit like him was his father pretty quickly. Draco immediately assumed the worst case and most dramatic scenarios he could think of as to why his parents kept his parentage a secret, so he grew to be somewhat resentful of Ethan as a result, refusing to talk with him and the like. This does eventually get cleared up when Draco’s older, however, though he never has a super close relationship with Ethan, despite the latter’s efforts.

The other big secret is that Noel’s other father is Cypress. Now, the majority of Draco’s family and friends back in Johto know vaguely who Noel’s other parent is, but Draco never tells Cypress. He doesn’t seem to realize the irony of the situation, that it’s similar to what happened between him and Ethan. Cypress will eventually find out he has a son, however, and when he does there will a be lot of drama for everyone involved.

20. What-ifs/Alternate Timelines

The original incarnation of Draco had a completely different personality and backstory to the current one. He was the son of Lance and his random oc wife and was meant to be a foil to Adelinda. Adelinda was the serious, no-nonsense cousin and Draco was meant to be more laid back and mischievous, sort of a ‘prankster bro’ type of character. Adelinda would be annoyed that her easygoing cousin was the clan heir instead of her and the two would have a conflict over that, though Draco would eventually prove he was a competent leader despite his unorthodox methods.

As Lance’s story changed, however, so did Draco’s. The rough order of when I added things went something like 1) What if Lance’s wife was dead, 2) What if Lance had another kid before Draco who was also dead, 3) What if Lance had a tragic childhood and was the kid of a dragon-god, 4) What if Lance’s dead wife was Liza, 5) What if there was a Faller Noelle? The former Draco just didn’t make sense after all these changes, so the moody disaster man we have today came to be.

Draco with 22, 27, 31, and B?

Sure thing! Thanks for the ask!

22. How does jealousy manifest itself in them (they become possessive, they become aloof, etc)?

Draco has a tendency to become very withdrawn and cold when he’s jealous. He’ll act passive aggressive and distant towards someone when he’s jealous of them, particularly when he’s jealous of a relationship they have. He has a bad habit of not getting along with people who don’t share his views, but then because he just gets really distant when he’s bothered by someone or jealous of them and expects them to figure out what the problem is, people just leave him alone since they don’t want to deal with all that. And then he gets pouty because everyone’s ignoring him. He’s rather emotionally immature that way, which is something he grows out of somewhat as he heads into his late teens and twenties, especially after returning home and settling down with Addie.

27. What causes them to feel dread?

Draco is extremely protective of his friends and family. Any of them being in danger is essentially his worst nightmare. The death of his sister and his father’s subsequent injuries when he was very young instilled a premature sense of mortality in him. Draco is terrified of his loved ones getting hurt to the point of paranoia. Even when his relationship with Lance is strained, Draco still regularly makes sure his father is in good health. I would say his greatest fear is knowing a loved one is in danger, but being unable to help them. This scenario already happened to him once and the thought of it happening again definitely instills dread in him.

31. Who are they the most glad to have met?

I suppose the ‘expected’ answer here would be his wife, Addie, but I think Draco is actually most thankful to have met Maia. Maia is such a no-nonsense and direct kind of woman, that she was exactly the kind of person Draco needed to meet to snap him out of a lot of the bad mindsets and habits he fell into in his teenage years. Maia was essentially the person Draco *thought* he was, and she was able to help get him started back on the right track with a bit of tough love. To this day, Draco is extremely grateful for all the help Maia gave him and considers her one of his closest friends and mentors.

B) What inspired you to create them?
Gosh. Draco is definitely one of my older fankids, and I originally created him just to flesh out Johto a bit, have some more Honshuese dragonblood characters, some older fankids for Renato to interact with, etc. He was never really fleshed out that much until I decided to go fully aboard the Langst Train and introduced Noelle and her death. (Yes, Noelle was created to be killed off, I’m sorry sweetie, at least you get to be a cool ghost kid.) From there I was able to solidify his character better. Draco went from ‘bro goofball who is at odds with Adelinda because she dislikes his attitude’ to ‘closed off and damaged young man with a superiority complex, father issues, and a host of deep-rooted problems whose character arc involves discovering his own faults and overcoming past trauma on a journey of self-discovery before returning to his roots to settle down happily with his childhood friend.’ Which is a lot more interesting in my opinion, at least.
