Hoenn Changes

Recently, I’ve been slowly working through all my different families and fankids, especially those who have been around since the beginning, and seeing if there are any I want to change. My latest changes have all been in Hoenn and they’re fairly major! I’ll lay them out here so none of the changes I make on the blog regarding these updates will be too surprising.

  1. I love Solomon dearly, but I felt like he just didn’t properly fit in with May and Lisia’s family and that it was holding him back as a character since I struggled to come up with hcs for how he interacts with them. As a result, he’s been “moved” to Brawly/Roxanne’s family, replacing Rudy.
  2. Additionally, Safir’s name has also been changed and she is now known as Angelica. She’s still rivals with Layla and a mentor to Eria. Solomon’s story is pretty much exactly the same despite this change, so his dynamics with Tanith and Balthazar are the same!
  3. Since I can’t really picture Levi as an only child, he now has a new younger sibling since Solomon has been “moved”. This new brother has been tentatively named Evan and I’m still developing him!
  4. Drew’s children are now quite a bit different. He still has twins and is (basically) a single dad, but rather than identical boys, he now has a girl and boy named Lydia and Francis. Their other parent is Harley, but he and Drew are not in a committed relationship and have no desire to move in together or get married or anything. Harley does play a role in Lydia and Francis’s lives though and sees them regularly. Being Harley’s biological children heavily factors into the twins’ unfriendly rivalry with Brooke (Harley’s ward).

What’s the story behind Robert and Solidad’s child? How did he/she/they end up under Harley (of all people)’s guardianship?

Oh boy it’s Brooke time.

Right, the story behind this situation. Essentially, Robert and Solidad had a ‘publicity marriage’. They were sort of casually dating, but then news of that got leaked to the press, so everybody thought they were a legit couple since gossip about top coordinators is always hot. The two felt pressured to enter a serious relationship and eventually got married, though by this point they definitely didn’t really have any feelings for each other aside from being friends. They have their daughter Brooke mainly just since it was ‘expected’ but both her parents do genuinely love her!

Of course, a marriage based on something as flimsy as ‘the media pressured us into it’ is definitely not built to last, so eventually Robert and Solidad decide to divorce, since trying to stay together is just making both of them unhappy, and more importantly, it’s not a good environment for a young girl like Brooke to grow up in. As nothing is ever simple in the world of celebrities, the divorce ends up being very messy. Robert and Solidad are fighting over details, there’s a ton of unwanted media coverage and it’s just awful all around. At this point, Brooke is mainly living in Kanto with Solidad, who moved out around when the divorce started (they had previously lived in Johto, in Robert’s hometown.) Seeing how stressed out and unhappy Brooke is becoming from the divorce and seeing her parents fight all the time, and also to get her away from the mess, Solidad decides to see if any of her friends in other regions are willing to take care of her 11 year old daughter until things calm down.

Between some of her friends being too busy with work and/or their own families to take in a troubled preteen, or just not being suited to taking care of a kid in the first place, somehow the most qualified person to take care of Brooke ends up being Harley. He’s eccentric, but Solidad trusts him and he has the space and resources to be able to support Brooke. So, Solidad and her daughter head to Hoenn to stay with her old friend, and hopefully see how well he and Brooke get along. Brooke ends up loving her ‘Uncle Harley’ and even if he denies it, he clearly is pretty charmed by her as well, so a few weeks later the arrangements for Brooke to move in are all set. She still video chats and calls her parents regularly, but Brooke ends up growing to love living with her ‘uncle’ and life in Hoenn, deciding to be a coordinator (but a ‘cool’ one like Harley and not a ‘boring’ one like her parents!). Even after the divorce is over, Brooke decides that she doesn’t want to go back to live with either of her parents, saying that she already got used to going to school in Hoenn and doesn’t want to leave all her new friends or the warm climate. Her parents agree to let her stay with Harley (since nothing seemed to be going terribly wrong) as long as she spends school breaks with either of them back in Johto or Kanto.

So, Brooke spends the rest of her teen years in Hoenn, becoming a popular and successful coordinator in her own right. She ends up cutting her hair short and styling herself as a ‘prince’ archetype, attracting many smitten fans who she always playfully flirts with. In actually, she’s quite a nerd and adores magical girl and idol shows and games, even well into her late teens. Brooke also ends up the main rival of Levi (May and Lisia’s son) competing with him for the title of ‘Prince of Hoenn’. Harley is very proud of her and will boast about her success as a coordinator and ‘flawless charm’ to everyone, even her own parents.
