The idea here is I talk a lot about all the historical aspects of this AU. I think the main bulk of my historical worldbuilding is surrounding the individuals who would later be deified as Legendary Pokémon as well as any significant reincarnations. I’d say Unova is my most developed region historically and Alola is the least – but hey! Part of the reason for this day is to work on developing this AU so here’s my chance to work on that. I guess for now all I’ll say is that, due to this being a fantasy AU, the past was pretty much Lord of the Rings, well, in Poké Europe at least. There were plenty of wars and magic and battles and forbidden romance. A whole big fun epic fantasy that happens to have pokémon in it because that is one of my favorite genres. I look to the movies for inspiration a lot, as they often depict historical events. I don’t follow them exactly, but they are definitely inspiration – especially the Lucario movie, as that film was one of the major inspirations for this AU in general and the movie that first sparked the idea in me that the pokémon world and a fantasy world could be one and the same. So, maybe in the spirit of that, I’ll talk about Rota for a bit. An introduction if you will.
Rota in this AU is comparable to our world’s Germany, in terms of language and culture. The capital of Rota is the city of Schwanensee (or Swan Lake) where Cameran Palace lies. Swanna are the national emblem of Rota and are featured on the kingdom’s flag and many of the noble families’ heraldic crests. Historically, Rota has been a large power, often competing with Kalos for territory and resources (most of which were in Unova, which is in between the two nations in this AU). Rota is well known for having a high density of light mages and for the integral part these mage families play in the history of the nation. Rota is perhaps most famous for its Aura Guardians, an elite order of mage knights in service to the crown. The order nearly fell apart during a brutal coup that took place a few years after the end of the Third Kalos-Rota War (the one featured in the Mystery of Mew film) and never fully recovered after that incident. Many former Guardian families fled to Kalos for safe harbor, counting on the recent alliance between their two nations to protect them. In the modern day, Siebold and Korrina are descendants of some of those families. Nowadays, Rota is more of a tourist nation as well as a leading exporter of luxury goods such as jewelry and fine fabrics.
